Exciting! I have the original steering wheel from this car.
Hi Jay, I think they were used on some Jaguars or Rovers of the era – I bought one for ?10 but that was a very good find. Otherwise they are available here for ?100 – which is probably the going rate I’m afraid.
Took a photo of one of my handles and the button is different too…
Did early Rapides have P5 handles and later ones have the P5B door handles? The ones on my car don’t have the lower fixing, I only noticed this when I bought a P5B handle and found it wasn’t quite the same. The photo below shows the bit I mean, the top one is a P5 with a rounded underside (under the push button) and the other is for a P5B with a point where the lower fixing is…
I missed this tread. That’s good news, mine were beyond help – I think refurbished motors are around ?600 each!

Just re-measured from under and I think 175mm will just fit…
The metal section is about 4″ (100mm) deep excluding the base board and the fibreglass section is about 2″ (50mm) – so obviously together that’s 150mm. Lucas do a simular battery which is L350 x H175 x W175mm – 95Ah – the hight appears to be the problem. The position of the terminals won’t matter as I’m reversing the polarity and fitting a new earth via the isolation switch.
Good find! I have to confess that I bid on them too having bought a set before Christmas from a person who was breaking a Sceptre. Some have slightly sharper flute edges as well, I think these tend to be earlier ones. A lawyer I work with remembered seeing these lock pins on a car when he was a boy, eventually he remembered exactly what car – amazing!

Hi Simon, thanks for your expert input. After my Tag Heuer disaster I know not to touch clock mechanical parts! An inline fuse is a great idea.

The front of a Rapide does take a bit of getting used to, but after a while it grows on you. I don’t think the complete DB4 front really works as it just looks like a DB4. I like it as it is, it’s distinctive and unusual.
