It seems logical that the starting point for the design of the Rapide was the DB4. The Chinese eye /horsecollar front may have been an attempt to steer away from AM and make it a Lagonda.
Though unusual, the style has come into its own, both the Facel Vega HK500 and RR SC ‘Chinese eye’ are now very desirable cars.
I’ve never seen any drawings of alternative fronts but maybe others have. I don’t know of any Rapides other than 105 which were altered in the factory – if there is any evidence of this I’d love to see it.

Christian30 November 2012 at 22:15 #49885I’m not sure why I’ve spent so long on this! Below are cut down Landrover straps – roughly half their original size. These straps consist of several layers of webbing bonded together within a rubber compound.
Christian29 November 2012 at 10:47 #49879None. The original Rapide strap is a 3″ wide strip of webbing (probably ex army), folded into a 1″ strip and glued. On the Rapide each side of the De Dion has two of these straps. Landrover straps cut down are the best option…
Christian29 November 2012 at 09:32 #49877Landrover axle straps will not fit. I have now found the right ones – they are not the same as the ones on offer for the DB5 which are in a loop – probbaly still work fine though!
Christian29 November 2012 at 09:27 #49876The pipes required for the fuel line and heater pipes are as follows;
Fuel Line – ID 5/16″ OD 3/5″ Black Nylon
Rear Heater Pipes – ID 1/2″ OD 5/8″ Black NylonIf you want to know where to obtain these get in contact.
Christian21 November 2012 at 18:49 #49862Hi Guy, thanks for your input on this matter. I believe the thread is cut by the metal shaft as it’s screwed on, the hole is slightly oversized so this would work on the softer plastic. The finish would be as original – black plastic…
Christian21 November 2012 at 17:17 #49858I’ve just had the quote back for a run of 50 and it’s not cheap (well that’s no suprise!). Cost is ?455 so ?9.10 each…is that totally out of the question?
Christian13 November 2012 at 16:43 #49840I’ve made contact with a firm who produce low volume injection mouldings, they are going to copy the lock pin in black plastic.
Plunkett Associates (See here) will give me a unit price once they have dimensioned off the original.
I think the aluminium option would be too complicated and expensive due to the internal thread and the fact that it would have to be machined. Would those who need this part be happy with a like for like in plastic?
If you are interested please let me know so I can estimate how many to get made – I’m thinking that 50 is probably a minium run. All to be confimred.
