Motorcycle spokes can be torqued with a special torque wrench although I have only recently become aware of this. I borrowed one of these tools and found it easy to use . I have been “torquing” motorcycle spokes by the old fashioned feel and sound method for 40 years but now will by the special wrench to do the final truing on my M45 wheels. I will obtain the torque spec from Buchanans Los Angeles who supplied me with the spokes.
Barry Brown9 January 2014 at 12:39 #50609In case anyone is interested I removed and repaired the backing plate. It was located by 4 threaded pins ( basically bolts with heads cut off!) Moving along at a glacial pace. 🙂

Barry Brown21 December 2013 at 22:03 #50581Colin and Bill, Thanks for the info. I suspected it might have been chromed although mine looks like it was painted silver . I’ll have a closer look. Can you please post some pictures of your cars ?
Last week I viewed Peter Ramm’s beautiful M45, coincidentally the “sister” car to mine as both were owned concurrently in the 1960’s by the late Canadian naval commander Warren-Poole . The steering column in his is also chromed . It is inspirational to hear a nice M45 run.Barry Brown12 October 2013 at 14:41 #50469final 4 pages. I can post the Marles info as well if you want.

Barry Brown5 August 2013 at 02:03 #50287Why is the obvious sometimes so elusive? Thank you gentlemen!
Colin, I certainly would like to go to Beaulieu No definite plans yet but finances may have taken a positive turn recently and that is what it hinges on !Barry Brown4 August 2013 at 13:01 #50281I just “discovered” this unfortunately empty tool roll that was amongst my M45 project. I initially thought it would be stashed under the rear floor boards but on second thought that would be a lot of weight hanging down so maybe behind the rear seat? Any ideas?
Barry Brown18 July 2013 at 10:16 #50258Interesting! My leafs were packed with grease and wrapped with what looked like “wax paper” ? and or course had leather gaiters with grease fittings all of which looked original although decrepit. It seems Thomas Hyde, Croyden was the maker. All 4 spring packs have the zinc spacers.
Barry Brown17 July 2013 at 22:06 #50256Thanks guys, much appreciated. I have taken one of the fronts apart and have started to polish out the ridges. It appears that some bodger in the distant past did a quick fix by inserting thin strips of sheet metal between the leaves, presumably to separate the leaves enough to prevent gouging. Only a guess on my part, you don’t think this bodge could be original do you? I presume the leaves themselves are original as they have the Lagonda part number stamped.
Barry Brown10 April 2013 at 21:52 #50106The Bonhams description says windscreen washers are mandatory in the UK even on collector cars?
