Glad to hear it works well Colin! Do you know of anyone selling rebuild parts for these ? The only thing I can see that might need replacement is the sealing ring on the piston.

I am determined to find out how the wheel rim was originally coated . It seems to be a big mystery to everyone! I have seen the same type of coating on Rudge motorcycle parts but they did not have to contend with all those holes around the perimeter . Yes there were magicians working at Lagonda. I have had the spokes plated and want a beautiful wheel.

Thanks for the reply Alec and link to the interesting M445. I am afraid the drive is still a mystery as the distributor has a right angle gear provision already in place. And of course on the other side of the engine resides the BTH magneto.

It probably can be welded but it is not an easy process as it has to be preheated , super clean bolted down to prevent distortion and then put back in the oven so that it cools slowly. The aluminum is full of contaminating oil. A much easier and permanent “mechanical” repair can be done using high end epoxies such as this https://www.amazon.ca/Devcon-10760-Gray-Titanium-Putty/dp/B00065TM08. Follow the instructions carefully. Use some steel mesh for added strength. I repaired my sump and one brake backing plate this way.
After you have repaired it, paint it with glyptal or another type of paint used in electric motor armature sealing.Aluminum castings pre ww2 are notoriously porous.

The bladders appear to be in good shape but I will try them before installing .Can anyone report from experience how well these things work?

Thanks for the tip . Mine is stated as an RG 7. At least that is what it appears to be on the record card. I can’t find a listing for that on the net.

My works record card states the same Lucas unit. I do have a large Lucas fuse box on the other side of the bulkhead, not sure if it is original as well.

Thanks Julian. I had the frame blasted ( in pieces) and immediately shot with a coat of epoxy primer. I am now assembling and will apply the chassis black after.

Colin! Thanks for the explanation! I appreciate it, Sorry I took 6.5 years to thank you! Anyway, I am back at the project having fun. Frame has been dismantalled and blasted and epoxy primed. Now the real challenge begins! Cheers, Barry

I am already getting negative feedback about using glossy paint ! It’s not too late to change as the can is unopened . I have looked at pictures of restored M45’s and the front frame “horns” always looked glossy black. Was this original, ? Please advise . Thanks
