David hi
I remember noticing the highly modified bonnet 3 years ago.
Strangely enough the owner of LR155. who lives some way outside of Sydney , ran his car with no extra modifications. But if I recall correctly he said that the slush box cooked you in summer.
I would be very interested to se the pictures of LR155 during restoration, if at all possible, could you forward them to me please by email ?
Also noted that LR153 back up for sale again, he should have gone for Bonham’s
SRD13 June 2015 at 22:46 #51303Price drop from ?16.5 to ?12.5, and it will go down more yet imho.
If the owner is sensible he will take ?5k for the car if it has a DB gearbox.
SRD11 June 2015 at 13:34 #51301Peter hi
Two years ago, you may have a found a seemingly nice 2.6 saloon for ?16k, not any more, and this was very much a one off as well.
Even poor saloons are being restored today, I know of several which have been purchased with no engine/box and the owners are sourcing correct items.
There is even the reverse situation, a gentleman has purchased a box and engine and is look for a car !
I think you will find the days of the cheap “hulks” have gone, hopefully …

SRD23 April 2015 at 15:01 #51211A few extra possibly older colour pictures have now been added to the for sale advert..
Would be more sensible to add current pictures if the owner wants to sell the car..
SRD21 April 2015 at 11:34 #51209Still for sale, should have put this car into AML sale with Bonhams at N.P.
http://www.cotswoldclassiccarrestorations.co.uk/for-sale/lagonda-rapide/
Currently ?150k, but imho this is not the way to sell such a fine car. Bonhams on May 9th would be ideal…
SRD4 March 2015 at 09:26 #51190We have a copy of the factory record and it clearly states Gurney Nutting. I noted the reference in Frostick, and double checked with the Lagonda authority, who also states G,.N.
I think the pictures doesn’t do the car justice, probably nicer in the flesh to so to speak
SRD3 March 2015 at 14:19 #51185There are a further three images on the web link, do take a look.
Personally I like the design, so much more inspiring than the standard 2.6 saloon, but that is my opinion of course.
I suspect that this car has not survived, (famous last words of course), but an interesting design exercise.
There are several other special bodied cars based on the 2.6 litre chassis, unfortunately with no images as follows:
Tice & Sons of Bournemouth (unknown) – LAG/49/28 with registration number KRU 339
Tice & Sons of Bournemouth Saloon – LAG/49/40 with registration number LEL 282
Grabber of Switzerland dhc – LAG/50/405 registered on 11/1951
Paterson of Belfast (unknown) -LAG/ 50/196 currently being investigated through contact in Ireland, but may not be the car, unsure at this time
So there are four more cars/ designs to find. The one which interest me most is the Grabber dhc, I would be interested to see how this differs to the Feeley design.
SRD2 March 2015 at 14:46 #51182Might I suggest that you do post your car details as Peter has suggested. This forum attracts many visitors looking for good projects, road-worthy cars or cars in superb order.
If your pictures are in digital format, follow the link attachments which go with these email replies. This will tell you how small to make the overall image, straightforward with Adobe. If you have any problems, email me, and I will reduce your images down to size for you.
Being a 1953 car, it is close to the tail end of 2.6 production.
Kind regards
Simon
SRD24 February 2015 at 12:01 #51172David hi
You are correct,LR133 sold a little while ago for possibly highest price yet achieved in the market for a Rapide.
Currently this leaves LR153, which I believe will come up at AML Bonham’s auction, best place for the car; and then LR125 which needs some work on it I am led to believe is still available.
SRD4 February 2015 at 12:15 #51155David hi,
Since you posted the email, several parties have been in contact with the owner of Abbey Farm.
The car has its gearbox still with it, which is a surprise. No doubt also the diff and steering rack and other useful parts present as well.
If anyone wants contact details, pm me please.
Kind regards
Simon
SRD18 January 2015 at 10:24 #51146The car located if memory serves me rightly, off Earlswood Common ?
No engine, VIN ID plate or number plates.
Car very, very rotten indeed and interior totally shot; front wheels removed and suspension collapsing into the ground.
Once upon a time old cars were still found in such hedges, now a rarity of course.
SRD17 January 2015 at 22:02 #51144David good evening,
Is this the dark grey saloon which you spotted, with drivers side window open, and car slowly sinking into the earth ?

At this rate you will be able to offer a road worthy car by the summer – impressive result, starting with a chassis found in a hedge!
Kind regards

SRD10 December 2014 at 09:41 #51102Jay hi
The inlet manifold and even new Solex carbs can be still purchased from Aston Service Dorset, at a price of course.
I have never checked to see if the inlet manifold set up as used on both period Alfa’s and also certain Mercedes is the same -, unlikely though.
I have noted that both the carb placement and linkages between the Solex’s on these cars is al very different to the Rapide, so do take care.
