I’m a new member to the forum, and I hope that someone may be able to help. I grew up in Ireland, near Dublin. As a young boy I absolutely cherished a Lagonda that a professor at Trinity College had, and I hope to find one now. Alas, I was well and truly credit crunched in 2007, and as a result, I’m looking for a restoration project. My budget, being very limited, precludes a car with its drivetrain intact, and so I’m hoping that someone may have, or know of a 2.6 or 3.0 litre without its engine and gearbox for sale. I am reasonably adept with spanners, and have workshop space. I can promise that it won’t become a garage queen, and I will endeavour to get it back on the road, albeit not for the purists. Hope I can find a helping hand here.
Kind regards.
Jim Morrow.

Peter S3011 June 2015 at 11:00 #51300There should be some around even if the total prroduced number is low, it is a question of beeing at the right place at the right time (wait and search). You should find an engineless saloon for a few thousand. Enough have been robbed of their engine.
But even a complete and nice 2.6 saloon may be cheap. Compare here: http://www.classic-auctions.com/Auctions/17-04-2013-ImperialWarMuseumDuxford-1341/1950Lagonda26LitreSaloon-35865.aspx a very nice (2.6) saloon with correct engine for 16k GBP !

Two years ago, you may have a found a seemingly nice 2.6 saloon for ?16k, not any more, and this was very much a one off as well.
Even poor saloons are being restored today, I know of several which have been purchased with no engine/box and the owners are sourcing correct items.
There is even the reverse situation, a gentleman has purchased a box and engine and is look for a car !
I think you will find the days of the cheap “hulks” have gone, hopefully …

Calibrator6 November 2018 at 19:59 #52931I’d wager that you are quite right. In the 3.5 years since I did my original posting, I’ve not found anything available. I was pipped to the post earlier this year to a DB 2.6 litre by a buyer in Scotland. Still, if per chance anyone knows of a car without the engine and gearbox, I’d love to hear about it.
