So there appear to be two of them. 79 BHX and 250 FMY
p.s. your link doesn’t go to the pictures.
Richard Branch30 December 2015 at 14:28 #51639Looks very smart especially on the darker colour. So tell me, if that’s ?225k why would AM Works have rejected an offer of ?350k on the one for sale at auction recently? Or is it simply that AMW have ideas beyond market expectations and Nicholas Mee is more realistic?
Richard Branch28 December 2015 at 23:01 #51635Yep, those are the ones David. I’ve since discovered one can buy an adaptor for any modern grease gun. Back in the 30s it seems one could get a specific greaser like this one…
Richard Branch28 December 2015 at 16:23 #51630Good to hear from you David and you make a good point about the Capris and Escorts. I went to Bicester Heritage Centre last year and it’s an enjoyable morning. For those who aren’t familiar with the place it’s the ex-RAF Bicester and still and active airfield for gliders and vintage aircraft. They are renovating the various buildings on the airfield and turning them into workshops and facilities for classic & vintage car specialists. It’s about 40 miles for me so it combines a run out with a mug of tea and bacon sandwich and chat with fellow enthusiasts.
Richard Branch23 December 2015 at 20:03 #51623Hi Colin, sadly (or maybe fortunately) as Dennis fitted a brand new pair of traditional 6v batteries when I bought the car I don’t have that space 😉
Richard Branch23 December 2015 at 19:43 #51621Thanks Stephen, I just had a quick look in my 16/80 handbook and couldn’t see anything but in any case your list looks like a good one. I’m sure I’ll stumble across the passage in my books at some point!
Richard Branch23 December 2015 at 11:43 #51619OK chaps, help me out here please! Somewhere in one of the 4 books I have bought on Lagonda there is a paragraph that describes the complete tool set provided with each car. I spent an hour or so last night thumbing through them to see if I could find the passage but short of re-reading each book it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. :
It was something along the lines of “and should the owner of a Lagonda break down on the road he’s well provided for because the factory supplies with each car; a 1/4” spanner, a 1/2 spanner, 2 x adjustable wrenches, 2 tyre levers etc. etc. The writer then goes on to say something like “it’s a good job the springs are solid because that little lot must add a few hundred weight to the car…”
I have:
Lagonda 2, 3 & 3-1/2 Litre in Detail, 1925-35 By Arnold Davey
Lagonda Book – A History Of The Marque By Davey And May
Lagonda Heritage (Osprey Classic Marques)
Lagonda An Illustrated History 1900-1950 Hardcover ? Geoffrey SeatonAnyone remember reading that passage? :help:
Richard Branch20 December 2015 at 18:26 #51616Thanks Bill, I fully intend to get the car inspected (as per an MoT) when it’s with Bishop Gray in January. You are almost certainly right about the reflectors, they should be closer to the edge of the car.
Richard Branch20 December 2015 at 14:21 #51612Thanks chaps, some good ideas there. I was aware of the Buick items used on the M45 but as Colin says, I don’t think these were ever fitted to the 16/80s. The Ford Model A mounts look similar to teh Buick ones but I am torn with regard to those, are they a touch bling or would they add a certain something to the rear end? Maybe I will trim down the existing plate mount so there’s less surplus metal on show and spray it black then add some red LED brake & tail lamp bulbs (Dennis has fitted indicators in these too). These are significantly brighter than the usual filament bulbs and consume far less current.
Richard Branch20 December 2015 at 09:06 #51609Thanks Tim, that’s exactly what I was looking for, I have bought so many Lagonda books since I got the car that I had forgotten that picture. There is what looks like a bracket on the n/s of the plate support so maybe there’s a lamp missing? Also that car appears to have something, perhaps another lamp, on the lower lip of the o/s rear mudguard. Interesting…
Richard Branch19 December 2015 at 12:36 #51606Good feature on both the Towns Lagonda and the Lagonda Taraf in this month’s Octane. Photography well up to their usual standard. I you like these big Lagondas it’s worth reading.
Richard Branch14 December 2015 at 22:14 #51600Drummed out of the Club, I love that 😀
Seriously though, while I have not seen in the metal to me eyes it’s a wonderful piece of design especially when you consider it’s based on the existing Aston HV Platform. I love the looks, it’s the perfect modern take on the Towns Lagonda and in my view it has oodles more class than say a modern VW Bentley or Rolls.
If I were a high powered industry magnate I’d have one to waft me up to my Mayfair office. As it happens I’m not 😉
Richard Branch9 December 2015 at 10:47 #51597Thanks Colin, I honestly don’t know if the rods have been replaced. I did ask but Dennis wasn’t sure and unless I whip the sump off I won’t know. I will mark it on my list of things to look at.

Same info from Tim, they should have sold it at that price, would have been a new high. Surprised AML did not give a 10% movement on estimate.
Indeed, ?310k plus the buyer’s premium (plus VAT on the premium) would have meant the buyer paying ?350k. So when comparing market values that’s the real amount and it’s a not inconsiderable sum.
