Thanks for the explanations about speeds, it is all starting to make sense to me now! 🙂
Richard Branch16 September 2015 at 10:30 #51445Going off at a tangent, how does a magneto running at 3/4 or 2/3 engine speed provide the spark at the right time? Or, doesn’t the magneto control the timing?

Like everyone new to a particular marque it’s always a difficult knowing where to start but the 16/80 looks attractive to me…
Chaps, following on from my initial post above, having now read much more about these particular cars, and lagonda in general, I notice that they are sometimes referred to as the Lagonda 16/80 S Type Special Six.
Is that the full and correct name of the car or does the “Special” bit suggest there were variants on the theme? Other than the body style – tourer/saloon and cycle wings vs swept wings differences.

Richard Branch14 August 2015 at 21:40 #51404Also being pedantic one doesn’t have to be a Lagonda Club member to be a ‘member’ of this forum. However as Mr Hammond has not appeared as a poster here you are correct in that he’s not “one of us”.
That said neither am I, yet… 😀 I have joined this forum as it’s a great source of knowledge and inspiration in my way towards becoming an owner, whereupon I will no doubt join the club.

That seems a fair price to me. I think I know this chap actually, got a couple of Lagondas and I bought a couple Avon tyres from him a few years back for my Aston.
Richard Branch3 August 2015 at 22:29 #51374Hi Rob, this was also mentioned in this thread http://www.lagondaforum.com/showtopic.php?id=946
Seems the seller has re-listed it. I don’t know what series of car it’s for. Rgds RichRichard Branch3 August 2015 at 08:07 #51371Hi Chris, thanks for posting, it’s interesting to hear from someone who has seen the car. Regarding the body, in why is it incorrect? Is it that it should be fabric covered and this one is metal panelled? I have bought Arnold Davey’s book and am working my way through the variations in body shapes etc. So I am educating myself. Finally on another thread, I notice Richard Hammond’s 2 litre car which also has a replacement body, sold at Bonham’s for a tad over ?100,000 so I am interested in your opinion that his car is worth around ?100k euro. It’s difficult getting a handle on the values of the respective models.
Rgds Rich…Richard Branch15 July 2015 at 11:18 #51350Have you tried these guys? http://www.vintage-headlamp-restoration.co.uk/
They were very helpful when I was looking for an original “Le Mans” lens for my Aston.
Richard Branch10 July 2015 at 20:35 #51347Thanks for your note Simon, all very helpful. Incidentally I don’t mind splitting hairs, accuracy in these things matters and that’s how I learn. I had heard of Willie Watson but wasn’t sure what part he played in the design. 🙂
Richard Branch10 July 2015 at 13:48 #51342Thanks chaps, the notes about it having a 2.4 litre engine were found on a Google search listing for the car when it was sold a few years ago. Perhaps it’s been reunited with its correct engine since then.
Books are on order, and in process of joining the club.
Rgds
