The grease nipples either side of the chassis are much larger than those I am familiar with and doing some research I think they are called TAT style nipples.
My question is; what kind if grease gun do I need to buy? I am assuming a “TAT grease gun” but that search on eBay and Google returns some odd results! 😀
So; what exactly should I look for and are they readily available? I’d like to buy a modern one to use in the garage and perhaps a vintage one to keep with the car’s tool kit.
Thanks Rich…
16/80 Tourerh1428 December 2015 at 19:38 #51632Strangely the V12 has these, for lubricating the fan bearings; a bit old fashioned for the late 30s one would think…but then perhaps Lagondas had a lot in stock and were looking to divest themselves.
Your best bet really is autojumbles, that’s where I got mine. Take a nipple with you, then you can be sure you’re buying a greasegun with the correct fitting. From memory, autojumblers are awash with greaseguns, so you’re likely to buy a good quality one for very little.
LaurenceDavid Bracey28 December 2015 at 22:42 #51633Richard, do you have a photo and any measurements? David
Richard Branch28 December 2015 at 23:01 #51635Yep, those are the ones David. I’ve since discovered one can buy an adaptor for any modern grease gun. Back in the 30s it seems one could get a specific greaser like this one…
David Bracey29 December 2015 at 04:35 #51636Those are the same grease nipples as on my MkII Aston. I’ve a nice original grease gun for it and have a new spare end connector somewhere. Let me know if you’re stuck and I’ll dig it out for you.
Looking on ebay, I reckon the fat one 3rd up from the bottom and in the middle of this lot will be what you’re after: –
There is a more expensive one that will definitely fit here but I would think you’ll find something much cheaper.
I hope that helps.
