Received the short catalogue a few days ago.

Well known car and looks splendid.

If it sells, we can all go out for a good meal on the strength of it.

About time in my opinion that the Rapide made a sharp jump from the ca. 200k mark.

Not sold I think, wonder where the bidding got to? Anyone know?

I don’t know at this time, will try and speak to Tim Schofield tomorrow.

Personally I think they over cooked the estimate, should have been say ?230-280 and let the market decide. I know it had E260k of AML money spent on it over a period of time.

Noted ca. 70% selling rate of cars sold, several other cars with adventurous estimates no doubt unsold.

The works prepared 1974 Lagonda, with RSW 7.0 litre engine sold for ?427k.

Same info from Tim, they should have sold it at that price, would have been a new high.

Surprised AML did not give a 10% movement on estimate.

Indeed, ?310k plus the buyer’s premium (plus VAT on the premium) would have meant the buyer paying ?350k. So when comparing market values that’s the real amount and it’s a not inconsiderable sum.

I won’t be surprised if the car sells after the auction or through the AML classic showroom at Newport Pagnell or possibly they may hold it for the Bonhams Jamboree in May. Will speak to my contact at NP, see what is happening

Probably one of the best Rapides in the market right now. and will clearly sell at or near price where bidding stopped, the high point for Lagondas post war under DB at the moment.

According to Octane, this car did sell at the auction – and, for ?785.500!! Sadly (of course), it didn’t. 🙁

Looking through the latest issue, you have to ask, did this journalist even go to the auction ?

The DBS based 4-door Lagonda was well bought at ?400k, one of the original 7 cars. I know where a companion sits, not used much either, and still with original size, not one of the RSW upgraded versions.

One wonders why AML did not retail the cars through Works Service at Newport Pagnell ?

Perhaps offering it at the NP auction might be considered too close to home? I would have thought Amelia Island or Pebble Beach would/should be the most sensible venues.
