I wouldn’t paint, especially if yours are new and chromed; mine are plain aluminium which was re-anodized
David20 May 2013 at 18:21 #50201Ah yes, I recognise that car (spoke with the owner on Saturday) and its front bumper spacing is similar to mine. BTW Christian how can you tell there’s no rear window demister as the aperture for the fan inlet is clearly visible in the rear parcel shelf?
David20 May 2013 at 16:30 #50199It also has just occurred to me – are the studs on your new bumper Christain the same length as the old template, or have these bumpers had to be too-closely mounted because the studs are shorter?
David20 May 2013 at 16:28 #50198Seeing Tim’s photos of the 3 litre reminds me that 129’s boot lid was misaligned and some 3-4 mm proud of the rear tonneau, straight on the car as Tim’s image above shows but too high at the leading edge
David20 May 2013 at 16:23 #50197I don’t think the body is particularly at fault, just that the shims are about 1 cm too short
David20 May 2013 at 11:11 #50191On my car, the front bumper is about 2 cm proud of the body in the centre behind the number plate, the rear is about 1 cm proud under the boot release button. Sorry no pics as I don’t have a digital camera (!). Interesting too that a recent pic of 125 also shows the front bumper almost or actually touching the body
David19 May 2013 at 12:24 #50184It was indeed a very good result for 129 but sadly I don’t expect it to stay in UK. Re the bumpers, they are I believe the new stainless steel ones made from your template Christian, anf they look good but as Tim says they were not very well fitted being too close to the body in the middle at the front and rear. So when you come to fit yours Christian you will need to experiment with the length of shimming (i.e. the tube through which the mounting stud passes) of the bumpers to ensure about a quarter inch clearance and/or to modify the profile of the upper “trailing edge” of each bumper
David4 May 2013 at 16:00 #50153Not sure I get your point Tim about Webastos being an anachronism if fitted when new (50 years ago!) by the factory. When rebuilding my car I had the option of repairing the Webasto or filling in the roof, and I chose to keep it, and I’m glad I did
David2 May 2013 at 16:01 #50145I think the Webasto is a great addition especially with the air deflector up, unruffled even in the back. Makes the interior very light
David2 May 2013 at 06:05 #50143It will become a benchmark I suspect, in view of condition and work recently done by the vendor and over time by the previous owner
David19 March 2013 at 16:36 #50080I think I paid around ?100 each to have mine refurbished, but no guarantee (one doesn’t work again)
David6 February 2013 at 16:14 #49998Sounds as if your battery compartment is shallower than on my car, where the metal section looks (from memory) 6-7 inches deep above the base board
David6 February 2013 at 13:13 #49996The battery may well sit proud of the compartment, hence the raised lid, about another 25 mm. Fit the biggest Ampere-Hour you can find with the terminals in the right place for the leads (positive on forward outboard side if I recall)
