I think the cause of the break-up of the existing bakelite (?) item is down to age rather than mileage!

Does RS still own 153 Simon? I last saw the car about 6 years ago when it was having the GW Autos 4-speed box fitted, same time as 107 and 120, and just before mine

My car has the radio balance knob and adjacent fuel filler release but not the heated rear screen switch, as Simon shows, under the dashboard. Also I think the front loom for all AM at the time had wiring for fog/spot lamps even if never fitted; as it happens both my cars did (I have 1960’s photos which show them) but long since removed

Anyone want to make a modest donation to Help For Heroes for the magazines?

?180K is not so outlandish bearing in mind for example that AML put 3000 hours into the restoration of their car (LR146)

I take it from Ray’s helpful remarks that the cut-outs in the tool’s underside as illustrated above in Christian’s photo are intended to enable setting of the cam timing by reference to the position of the cam lobes & their profile matching the cut-outs in the tool. So I can well understand Tim’s remark that other tools are more heavily constructed as being less prone to distortion. I agree entirely with Ray that the proper way to set the cam timing is with a dial indicator gauge not some technician’s home-made short cut. The other facet to perhaps consider is the provenance of the tool to a specific Rapide in that there were at the time several cam profiles available (DB4, DB4GT, standard Rapide, experimental [as my other car], etc) and without a micrometer etc one cannot be sure the tool actually matches the cams installed in a particular engine.

Fascinating! Appears home made as asymmetrical, and it’s quite hard to see which of its surfaces or edges would have been precise enough for measurement against

It would be very helpful to know the current code and manufacturer of SSG in case I wanted to return my other car to its original spec from Citroen Silver, thanks

My car got its MOT on Monday. Have driven about 40 miles since, and steering feels much crisper with solid mounts rather than perished metalastic, no surprise. Throttle response much improved too having taken slack out of the linkage with new parts and bushes as necessary

    Thanks Simon, hadn’t spotted that

The other modification worth thinking about is to remove the bypass hose from water pump to thermostat housing thus forcing all water to pass through the radiator – any thoughts?

My car needs new rack mounts, the originals have perished, so have opted for solid aluminium replacements, temporarliy if necessary in the interests of getting its MOT asap – Christian did you go for the original metalastic ones or change to solid? Does anyone else have road experience of the solid mounts from a “road feel” perspective?
