It was a joke, we share the same affection for these cars …

Most people I would suggest do not possibly appreciate the expense or labour involved in sorting out the doors and potential frame problems etc etc

However, several people valued the car highly, mechanically well sorted and with an expensive engine rebuild.

    Do I detect a slight bias Tim to the 4-door ? 😀 :}

An incredible price for a paint-scheme I would not be able to live with.

The Tremec was an expensive change, which imho an over-drive unit would be a better and more cost effective solution keeping the DB box..

The dropped door is a sign of other horrors lurking within as we both know..

I think it is a fabulous result for the vendor.

Thanks for the contact, greatly appreciated.

Since I only need the boot carpet floor section piece replacing – actually, a 3 inch x 3 inch section from this, I will wait until I find a closer match, or maybe have the carpet repaired locally.

That is a very good match – well done!

Perhaps you could share the source with us. In my boot, it is the large floor mat which suffered when front brake caliper fluid split on it during storage.

imho, this is a reasonable 3.0 litre 4-door saloon. Mechanically as well sorted as they get.

The current owner has spent a fortune on it, witha 5-speed Tremec box and rebuilt engine and so much else done…

I wonder what it will make, will be a good test of the market ??

The Gray 2.6 litre dhc is now being sold again a year later at H &H. It could ideally do with a re-spray and the interior sorting out, but looks to be the basis for a good car

1951 Lagonda 2.6 Litre Drophead Coupe

    Estimate: (?) 16,500 – 18,500

    Reg Number: 575 MOF
    Chassis Number: LAG/50/267
    Engine Number: LB6A/50/327
    Cc: 2580
    Body Colour: Grey
    Trim Colour: Brown
    MOT ExpiryDate: April 2014

Purchased in 2012 as a donor car for an ongoing project but subsequently found to be “too good to break” this example of Lagonda’s elegant 2.6 drophead coupe is finished in Grey with Brown leather interior. Work carried out in the current ownership includes a brake overhaul, re-commissioning of the electrics, cleaning of the fuel system and carburettors and replacement of the fuel pump with a double diaphragm unit. A compression test confirmed these to be “good” whilst the owner describes the engine as having good oil pressure and running “sweetly” whilst the transmission is “good” with “good” clutch. The bodywork is described as “very good” whilst the older repaint is “average” along with the interior. The vendor notes the tank needs flushing and the reserve solenoid is non-operational. The engine number stamped on the timing cover is LB6A/50/466 although the V5 shows LB6A/50/327. Offered with current MoT to April 2014, a copy of the build sheet, assorted old MoTs and Swansea V5C.

    Jay hi

I would suggest following David’s advice, these people have an excellent reputation in the AML world

The phone number is 01273 891989

Nothing to loose and yes if you want carpeting for your boot because it is worn out,a good place to start. Same material used for all the NP DB cars as well.

I think Webasto aside, Bonham’s have done a lot with this particular car; a large number of photo’s, long listing, interesting estimate etc; and they are no doubt hoping to get a very good price on the day.

I wonder why the vendor has kept this car for such a short time – I won’t be letting go of mine so quickly.

    Peter hi
The two 2.0 litre tourers are like chalk and cheese.

    1. The H&H car had a non-original engine, but a fixed reserve of ca. ?65k (my guestimate), hence a no ale at ?60k.

    2. The Bonhams 2.0 litre came in with a low reserve, a typical and very dangerous tatic from Bonham’s, great for the potential buyer if the room does not warm to the car. The car sold bang on its lower price, with clutch problems and possibly other unknown issues. Caveat Emptor when buying such a car.

    3. The V12 was taken to Bonham’s by the vendor for the following reasons: He contacted BONHAMS; COYS; and H&H. The latter would not even visit without committing to auction !
COYS and BONHAMS both quoted similar costs for transport and commission, with BONHAMS then offering free transport; reduced catalogue entry costs; and agreed to insure the car comprehensively until end of May.

However, such freebies cost, with a very low agreed reserve, and no doubt a 20% leeway on top of that as well. This is another small print tactic of Bonham’s, I learnt at my own personal cost a few years ago.

There are of course the exceptions, auctions like the AML Bonham’s auction springs to mind. But then again, one can see that a fair few of the pre-sale estimates are generally low, and indicate that cars are here to sell, and such prices are generally comfortably exceeded.

Like everything if you want a quick sale and money in the bank, sell at auction, but pick your venue and auctioneer with care. if you have time, place adverts on the internet or allow your car to be sold on a sale/return basis as many do from a premier car dealer…

The price of seemingly reasonable Lagonda’s does seem to be have taken something of a tumble at the moment, excluding the V12 limo.

The LG6 limo at H&H sold for ?37k, and that was a good looking car

The 2.6 saloon also at H&H in immaculate condition sold for ?15 k

The well known Lagonda 16/80 sold at a pittance for ?40 k

The LG45 Replica which was in excellent order, failed to sell

The 2.0 litre low chassis failed to sell, bidding stopped at ?60 k, but that maybe due to a the wrong engine being present and an over-cooked estimate.

A 2.0 litre low chassis at Bonham’s, albeit with a clutch problem sold for ?57 k, again Caveat Emptor with this one.

Now this V12 limo, complete and in a much better state than the previous eBay V12 car, with a running engine at ?33 k. The vendors were offered much more at the end of last year. However, you look at it, this was a very cheap V12

Two auctions, do not make a deflated bubble, it will be interesting to see what happens to prices over the next six months.

Someone got an excellent buy with this car, which had been a fully restored back in the 1990’s at great expense.

The car sold with buyers premium for only ?15,904.
