LE128 has been purchased by a private investment company in Switzerland, who also own LR138.

They are spending money improving both cars.

Perhaps they may be looking to increase their fleet.

    Peter hi

I have been in contact with the vendor, pictures promised for end of week. The picture was indeed a library picture.

Car currently in very tight garage, so fun and games at end of week

if I recall the Thrupp & Maberley body on the long chassis is a bit of a monster, a link is attached:

You are correct the LG6 chassis is a fair bit longer for the Meadows unit.

    David hi

I have gone through my stock of spares and my temperature gauges, the earliest from a 1949 2.6 litre is not correct for your car.

However, I have spent some time on the web, and have come up with a good link and a picture for you.

Image quality of attached picture is limited by attachment size max allowance, but do note that the web-picture is very good indeed.

    I hope this helps

This car, a 2.6 dhc from 1950, is now being offered for a 3rd time, since unsold at Bonham’s Beaulieu in September and H&H last summer.

Also unsold after private advertisements as well.

The new venue is Bonham’s Oxford, where the vendor first purchased this car back in 2012, for ca. ?23k.

Saturday 8th of March, no estimate yet, previously unsold with estimates of ?15-20k

    David hi

We went in on the Thursday to view the car for ca. 30-40 minutes and then we were off; that was enough to get a good impression of the car.

As you know I am trying to get as up to date pictures on every car which is findable. Sorry, not there for the sale on Friday, that might have been pushing the boat out a bit…

Buyers Premium is a hefty 16% plus 20% VAT on this figure….

I used to work in Paris a lot as well, wonderful place, and yes we stayed somewhere special.

BTW, I had thought the largest collection of Wedges was in Potters Bar, that was substantial when I last looked; are you suggesting there is a larger collection ?

“A bit low, though I note that many lots barely made it to the bottom of their estimate bracket (and some didn’t even manage that). “

I agree with this Tim, but of course there were exceptions: the DB4 which was not actually a DB4GT, did very well imo, the DB5 and DB6 were on the money; the Ferrari’s did ok (but not as good as the recent USA auctions); high quality European cars did fine; the Lagonda V12 dhc made very good money as they always do in Europe; far better than the comparable example at H&H in December did.

Overall, the sale suffered from “too little and to late” in terms of advertising /marketing. Which is typical of Tajan who are behind Art Curial. There are plenty of auctions at the moment, all competing for people’s money.

However, cars which were either not top notch “current investors purchases” or high condition 2 / 1 or better cars, did poorly; that is where I would place LR128.

The sold price was 193,000 Euro’s, which is ?160,400.

Having seen the car in person, I rated it overall as poorer than LR129, so the price was right, even with the typically poor advertising of Art Curial outside of Europe.

The re-spray was i.m.o. poor, and nowhere near Goodwood Green; underneath the car there was a variety of indifferent welding.

The carpets. under-felt etc were all poor replacements etc. The floor-pans were solid, but not pretty repairs, when you looked carefully.

Detailing was not the strong point for the car. The best point for European buyer’s was the lhd

[I collected copies of build sheet and owner history whilst I was there on my phone].

Paris is a wonderful place to spend for an anniversary….

I wonder if it worked any better than the DB5 or DB6, was never too impressed with this system in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

I had forgotten to mention that aside from being LHD, this car is also an original manual, and possibly with the superior 5-speed ZF box.

I doubt that there is such a thing as certain parts being used only “for early Rapides”.

One might imagine that AML purchased in batches, buying whatever was available at that time or sitting in their parts bin.

Also not forgetting that these cars were not made or sold in anything like numerical order.

Did you manage to find a replacement, or have you glued it in place ?
