    Dear all,

I sent my perfectly complete but not functioning fuel and temp gauge away for servicing 6 months ago. When it finally returned the incompetent idiot reassembled it with the temperature face missing and a note to say that as there was no face he couldn’t check the calibration. No mention of where it had gone!! An argument is ensuing but my hopes of him finding the missing face are not good and I can’t wait another 6 months for him to fit it even if I trust him.

I have photos that show that the face was in the original gauge but they are not clear enough for me to copy or reproduce but. I think my best bet is to remake one and fit it myself.

Does anyone please have a good quality photo they could share with me? I have attached a photo of my gauge in its current sorry state.

    Hi David,

    How very annoying.

I think I may be able to help. My dashboard is currently out of the car. I will see if I can scan the dial for you.

That would be fantastic David, thank you. You will find my email details in the club register. I would send them to you but I don’t know your surname so can’t look you up.

    David hi

I have gone through my stock of spares and my temperature gauges, the earliest from a 1949 2.6 litre is not correct for your car.

However, I have spent some time on the web, and have come up with a good link and a picture for you.

Image quality of attached picture is limited by attachment size max allowance, but do note that the web-picture is very good indeed.

    I hope this helps

Thanks Simon. Another kind member has also sent me a good photo and another has provided details of Bedford Dials who he thinks will be able to assist. Feeling very positive about this now and am hugely grateful for the response to my plea.

I will report back with progress.

    Hi
I have given David privately the telephone number of Bedford Dials which is 01584 810345 for the benefit of any other members. Run by Jonathan Ricketts and his family. Fantastically helpful and also a pre war MG owner. They can produce copies of masses and masses of different dials used over the years and I felt sure they would have this one. They produced a pre war French Jaeger rev counter dial for me specially at a very reasonable cost. I wanted a particular design but they had in their computer 2 or 3 other designs already – copies of which which I could have had much cheaper if I had not been so particular !!
Usual disclaimer. No connection with the company other than as an extremely satisfied customer.

    Update!!

Thank you to all the kind members who have offered help and advice. I am pleased to say that after some ‘encouragement’ the original dial restorer found the missing face and posted it to me. I have just finished fitting it so am very relieved.

Thanks again everyone and the contacts you provided will be handy in the future.

And in a cloud of exhaust fumes….He was gone!!

    David
