thank you, no this is from a DB 3ltr Lagonda (1957) (my second Lagonda) But may be they continued to use them since the LG45 “never throwing away anything” or just no need to change ?
let?s see if somebody else can have a look in his DB 2.6 or 3 ltr.

Hi John and others,
After making an adapter for my compression tester (I was surprised by the nice little spark plug with M10 thread, like from a model plane) I have now measured compression and found from cylinder 6 to 1:
4, 4, 8, 4, 8, 8
Now I am going to get the workshop manual (source found) and a head gasket (good/cheap supplier?) and then try to take the head off. I do not hope to much that it is only the gasket but would be good to have it.
Useful other tests suggested before that ? May be compression test with oil sprayed in to compare and see if low compression comes form piston rings or the head ?Enough questions for today
Petersorry no help, just interested too. How did the starting handle look like ? (photo and dimensions welcome to build one). The only tools I have is the handle for the jackall system.
Peterask Michael ( B61, I bought his 3ltr, more about this to come) he has one and forgot to tell me before the car was transported to me, so shipping would be to expensive now. He asked me 350 GBP for a new (reproduction), same price as he paid some time ago he said. 🙂

or simply use this forum, it is free to the users too (the little cost are paid by me) and it is free of adds or popups. Only if we come into the Gigabytes we would have to upgrade somewhat, but I think the content of what is available plus some (100) images would help already. May be it is to much work to scan everything.
If Paul wants to digitise all, he would have to store it on his computer (no problem for several 100 Gbyte). And give access to people who ask for.
So here it is. It was done by local specialist http://www.gutmann-automobiltechnik.de about 60km from my home. Material is stainless steel 1.4301 (SS304) including all flanges. I think they did a good job, producing all parts and fitting it to the car including remanufacture of all mounting parts. Instead of one of the 4-screw flanges there is a modern fitting (not so nice for the purist). After welding the system was passivated (but I think only from outside). Total cost was 2000 EUR including taxes. I just drove the car back yesterday.
The endpipes we did similar to as they were before on this car (bent a little downwards) but I asked for having them inside the bumpers.
In one photo you see the old parts. We found that some tubing in the old system was from a copper-alloy ! soldered to mild steel parts. I wonder if that was original or already a replacement. The first part after the exhaust manifold was mild steel and very thin already from corrosion.
The system is not significantly more silent than before, so the second silencer does not help to much and the first one might be better if a bit larger, but we did stick to the original 130mm diameter

The cheaper “Excelsior” has a less pronounced profile and is narrower (140 compared to 175mm)
Why are the Michelin better?probably you know them, but in case not: Baines (www.coh-baines.co.uk) has many rubber profiles and also can make new ones

I have two suggestions: look under “Some links” in the main menu, go to classic car-directory-homepage and do a search, select instruments, you will get some companys (I just tested it).
I assume this is a speedo that has a rotating magnet, which became weak. I would be tempted to take the thing apart..

The ones I have now are with much profile but old and cracked and I assume they are a bit risky and I have to get new ones

good idea, we did it like this: you have now the “For Sales” and “Wanted” for each car type. The posts are sorted by date anyway, I hope this works better. Old posts have been moved respectively.

nevertheless, we will change some things as pointed out in my previous post it will take us some hours during the weekend and than I hope to be able to concentrate again on cars (Lagondas)

In the next days we are going to change or check:
1. Forum rules will be completed and always easily accessible, e.g. we add: ” If you use third parties personal info (like e-mail or phone number) make shure this person has agreed with it. If you recommend a company this can be typically assumed as they want to be promoted. If talking about private persons, please ask him first. “
2. Check boxes in Forum user profiles will be added where the user can accept that other forum users are allowed to use certain of his personal info in this forum like his name or his phone number or his e-mail. So at least for forum members it is easy to accept that you can write “call xy under 1234” or “mail to xy to ask him”
3. there is already an option in posting: the symbol “letter with envelope” converts an email address into an image, so if you give an email adress using this, it will be an image, like [email]peter.schirg@t-online.de[/email] and not as easy for a computer to use it to send spam.
4. have a look e.g. at the bentley drivers club forum http://www.bdcl.org (forum rules..) so we should not make life to complicated.
5. This is not a higly secured secret forum, it is public!!

thank you, perfect, here you see how it looks on my car now: nice chromed ends with a swing sitting on rusted pipes. Strangely both do not go straight out but both are showing a bit to the left side of the car.
Also they are longer than the car, so when I squeeze it in my garage they are prone to act as bumper..Peter
