These are very difficult gearboxes for the amateur to work on.
Mel Cranmer used to do them and may be worth a call for advice
There was a chap doing gearboxes in Dodworth Barnsley who may have done one.
I’m not much help i’m afraid.

It sounds as though the set up has broken

it must have been spinning all the time and not fully released

unfotunatly  the engine needs lifting out to get the bell housing off
you will then be able to properly see what’s going on

    regards David

As you say, it is quite an expensive item
I assume you have the existing LG45 type filter which used the same cartridge as the old XK jag engines used.
The only benefit would be avoiding fitting the metal container without it leaking every time.
I think the club does supply a thicker rubber gasket

Have a look at RBR 410 under M45/LG45 / Rest of Meadows engine

I think you will need two of these

Valve stem seals are not necessary however it is vital to seal the head studs with lots of PTFE tape to stop oil being sucked into the inlet manifold

The impeller must have been binding
It is a strange set up but there need to be the correct thickness of shims between the body of the pump and the engine block so that the back of the impeller is just clear of the pump body and spinning freely
Give me a ring if not clear
Mel Cranmer May have a apace impeller

This master cylinder should work OK if you fit all new seals and valves
The main thing is to ensure there is a gap between the pedal plunger and the unit when you release the pedal so that all can return including the mid way piston if one is fitted.
The 4 slave cylinders may need re sleeving by someone like Past Parts
    kind regards
