I am no expert on batteries but surely you need to look at the “CC” (cold Cranking) figure to see if the batteries will be sufficient to start the engine. From memory I think you should need cold cranking of 600 CC plus ?
The AH rating is something different and relates to the capacity of the battery (Amps per hour) i.e. 65AH is 65 amps drain for one hour. If you therefore left the headlights and a lot of other things on totalling a discharge of 65 amps (assuming that the engine is not running i.e. no charging) then at the end of one hour the battery would be flat.
Therefore ( and I stand to be corrected by more knowledgeable members) a 65AH battery should be fine for an LG45 but you need to look carefully at the cold cranking figure.bill24 February 2021 at 19:09 #53250Is it possible to dig a pit ? Not too expensive and many different cars will fit over it. Also very safe as not relying on electrics or hydraulics.
bill6 January 2021 at 13:49 #53231Thank you David. Very interesting to watch this and to know the history.
bill25 June 2020 at 08:40 #53167HI Julian
Many thanks for the reply.
I just need the brass ring but I will email you direct if I may at HCS.
Many thanks.bill16 February 2020 at 14:05 #53118Hi Rich
The screen that I used was a Bentley screen where the aero screens doubled as wind deflectors when the screen is up. I got the bare side castings from James E.Pearce Bentley Specialists. They also supplied me with some of the brass rails etc and I made it all up so that it fitted the car. You need to be able to do silver soldering !bill5 February 2020 at 13:47 #53116Yes, unfortunately they are plain not pleated. Thanks anyway.
Still looking !bill11 September 2019 at 18:10 #53061Hi Rich
Yes it is a screen which opens out forwards at the bottom. I replaced it in order to have a screen that folded down from the top so that I could have aero screens.bill10 September 2019 at 09:04 #53058Sorry ! For some reason my post above has appeared in the Rapier section not the 3 litre section. I don’t know how to transfer it so will post it again now in the correct section.
Apologies !bill15 August 2019 at 10:33 #53045Assuming that I have understood the problem correctly (can you post any photos ?) is it possible to use a 1mm cutting disc in a small angle grinder very carefully ? Without applying too much side pressure one can also use these discs for grinding in confined spaces.
bill11 August 2019 at 08:41 #53042Try some heat with blow torch or oxy. The expansion may do the trick.
bill19 July 2019 at 09:06 #53037I had a similar type of problem with a distributor and it was the rotor arm. Renew/replace this and see if this helps ?
Also be aware that even if you get a spark at the plugs when they are out of the engine this doesn’t mean that they will spark when they are under compression !bill30 April 2019 at 18:37 #53016not in Canada or usa I am afraid but there is one coming up at Brightwells auction here in the uk in about 10 days time.
https://www.brightwells.com/bill5 March 2019 at 09:06 #52990Hi Julian
Thanks very much for the reply which I only just picked up.
Yes I am still looking – although I had resigned myself to fabricating something if necessary. Do you have the remains of something suitable ?
Thanks.
Billbill17 February 2019 at 09:35 #52977On my M45 it had something similar and in my research would definitely be for an oil can. I found that in fact a reasonable modern simple oil can (with spout etc and spring trigger) fitted almost exactly in the “cradle”. I hope this helps.
And I painted the oil can a “gungy black” so it looked quite original in the end !! -
