Tim S. explained this e-catalogue was the same as the hard covered catalogue winging its way in the post to us sometime soon..,
I was in the same boat as you until enlightened by Bonham’s of how their system worked, far to complicated for me.
SRD3 May 2016 at 15:33 #51926Tim hi,
I see their cataloguer has not fully updated the standard “browse through” catalogue yet. Full text now appears, but extra pictures not added yet …
If you click on the “view e-catalogue” link to the rhs, this will take you to the full multi-page catalogue proper, where the description and pictures are complete.
SRD3 May 2016 at 08:43 #51923Perhaps I am just more partial to the 3.0 litre cars, all are wonderful things, and yes fully agree the 2-door Coupes come close indeed. The 4-door saloons are indeed wonderful, but so very rare, thankfully there are a few owners who bought these as complete cars when they could.
To my eye the 2.6 dhc has dated a little too much, but again a personal view, in a two tone paint scheme they can look very impressive.
Back to the car in the auction.
Click on the e-catalogue and Bonham’s have done a much better job than we thought on lot 207, publicity picture and period adverts included..
SRD3 May 2016 at 07:34 #51921Rare and desirable, by far the nicest of the 1950’s DB-Lagondas in terms of styling.
SRD2 May 2016 at 18:38 #51918I agree, it was a good project, and slowly prices of saloons starting to creep up, about time, given their rarity…
I cannot get my head around the price of AM project cars, no doubt more to follow in 3 weeks time at Newport Pagnell.
SRD2 May 2016 at 18:31 #51917This manual is also very, very useful, worth about ?30-35 and strongly recommended indeed (same seller). My copy is well used, straightforward and well written:
SRD2 May 2016 at 18:29 #51916This should do the job for now, price is dirt cheap, and comes from an excellent Lagonda home:
SRD20 April 2016 at 16:12 #51876We have restored many Lagonda pre-war car clocks, mostly Smiths.
They came with either chrome or black finish.
In a few cases we have noted that a standard chrome bezel was sprayed black in period in period. Clearly the factory had an order to complete and needs must..
SRD20 April 2016 at 16:09 #51875H & H had no idea what to ask for this car so I have been told, 40 years with the last owner who looked after it very well.
Last year a 3.0 litre dhc was sold for ?150,000, which was I thought was good.
There was also a ratty looking 3.0 litre saloon which made ?19,000 plus b.p. ..
The previous owner had a wonderful collection – fully agree with that…
SRD20 April 2016 at 15:36 #51872Sold today for ?340,000 with b.p., a world record for a 3.0 litre dhc. Great news that it sold. to the USA, bound for a private collection..
SRD8 March 2016 at 19:28 #51812Car comes from a well known private Cambridge collection.
Whilst clearly the pick of the crop with its special hood and provenance, will it sell at this price ?
Best price to date for a 1950’s DB Lagonda has been ?150k last year for a superb 3.0 dhc
A nice Pathe film of the car and owner from the period,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbLnVt2DNaM
and it can be found on footage of 1he 1956 Melbourne games etc..
