Another picture of this assembly, best possible given the difficulty accessing it!

The picture also shows the heater/air vent hosing in excellent condition, which was another suprise, had expected this to have perished after nearly 50 years ?

A few more pictures, one above is with the last owners son. Tyres inflated after 40 years and still holding pressure, amazing. All wheel trims present with the car and all useable.

Also two eared spinner, jack, window opener and a set of tools in original Aston tool kit bag, albeit rather tired looking.

The car was aboslutely filthy when collected, covered in grime, dust and muck etc, will be a challenge to clean! The car was covered in carpets, which have left an oily finish on top of the paint in places, will be a challenge to see if it can be removed.

Forget to mention , a nice colony of long deal snail shells on the carpet behind drivers seat, they enjoyed the carpet, but thankfully left the seat leather alone!

More pictures from the pretty setting whwere the car had been stored. During moving, half of the very rotten exhaust dropped off, not suprising, since closest to the ground.

    Ken hi

I think you will find that the spring stiffness between the 2.6 cars and 3.0 litre 4-door may be different in terms of the car ride / softness etc.

Please email me and I 😀 😆 will give you details of someone who has fully restored a 3.0 litre 2-door nuts and bolts restoration.

The V8 lagonda seen near Birmingham is chassis No 001, and owned by a club member.

This is one of only 8 cars and is of course a very special car.

A link to these cars :

    http://www.astonmartins.com/v8/v8_lagonda_series_1.htm

Most importantly, it seems to be the only one in anything like original spec, conditiion. By that I mean it has not had the engine enlarged, new interior put in, or the other body effects seen on the later V8 AM cars.

Note the more common wedge of which there were ca. 645 examples made, is not in the same class.

This appears to be the correct tool roll bag, albeit very expensive.

Will let you know what tools / roll I find in 126 on Tuesday.

I have already seen the jack and window winder for non-working problematic electric windows.

Christian hi – I know you were not serious about those improvements, just adds to the fun on the forum. I am not sure that a Rapide would look good with a cam spoiler like the DB6 has; but I like the wide alloys and ground effects, deep tinted windows and a good sound system with deep bass as well.

Colin – thanks for your input, good to hear from an owner of an older car, who may indeed have seen their car repaired multiple times over it 85 year life; and no doubt the odd restoration as well thrown in.

You are 100% right with respect to MOT’s, good to have a totally independent check over of the car.

Excellent some life in the old forum, good to see:

Christian – all good valid points, but any largely original car, will due to the age of it, need a fair bit of money spending on it, to bring it back to a good standard; update with PAS, electric fan; auto-gearbox upgrade if required to 4-speed etc.

The other modifications sound a bit naughty.. if you lower the car by 3 inches, then it will practically hit the floor, it is low enough already; might I suggest a compromise of 1.5 inches and a larger spolier to give better ground effects…

Tim- Originality vs restoration, a very tough cookie and where do you start, so here is a gentle opener..

Interior – reconnolising or repairing – still original trim, and same with walnut dashboard if it has to be french polished or interior chrome-work re-done. head lining, most will have sagged by now and need repalcement. Originality compromised – no.

Chrome-work- leave as is with verdigris and rust, I think not, have it replated or replace bumpers only with stainless steel? Originality compromised -possibly for bumpers, but very practuical solution, since many are now beyond re-plating

Engine / box- overhaul and rebuild /repair as required, still original, for some cars, just a long time since last major service..

    Brakes and suspension – ditto

Chassis outriggers, sills, floor pans etc – leave it all as it is, and enjoy the patina and watch your car crumble into a bull of dust. I think not, sympathetic repair and replacement, to ensure structural integrity of the car and at the same time, certain rust trap areas sorted out, with drain holes, modern rust proofing materials etc..

Body-work – there are those who think should deskin back to the superlegera frame, sort it and then dip it to ensure electroytic problems are reduced. The other approach is to strip down as far as possible, and this exposes most of the frame-work anyway, and repair as required.

Paint-work – if you have deskinned, then where is the originality ?

Personally, imho, I think each car of these nearly unique machines should be treated on a car by car basis, there is no universal formula for all.

LR108- 25 years outside. Car stripped down to chassis, all original parts wherever possible have been stripped, repaired, reconditioned or where to rusted and beyond use, replaced with correct pattern items; major chassis work required of course. Originality imho, very good indeed and would happily have as well.

LR120 which I had a good look at, had been sadly neglected, and needs vast amounts of welding, a full respray, interior partially retrimmed, with black seats, and original red-trim to doors, new head-lining. But done by works service, originality at the moment, still good, but would look better with wide alloys and dark tinted windows, but not for me.

Curious what is the situation with your car now and in what state did you find it?

Before I finish this email, I have watched the AMOC web-site with interest for a long while. Where do you place the many pristine DB cars which have had a complete strip down, update /renovate, nuts and bolts rebuild, engine engine enlargement, gear-box change to a modern box and now look like new cars ?

A good colour choice, Aaegen Blue, but at the moment I am biased!

Also good in Buckingham Green and not sure what colour LR117 is, but very, very impressive pictures on DB4 50th anniversary pictures.

Here is a link to the car, LR125, the car before mine :

    http://www.amoc.org/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,118/

    All chrome-work re-done and perhaps a light respray ?

This light color does no favour to the shape of the car , it requires imho, a strong body colour to make this car look fabulous.

Can’t tell anything else from this picture.

I had a chat with Tim Schofield of Bonhams about this car.

He was very brief, he hadn’t seen it, his assistant had, and comments as follows and he has upgraded description from barn find to “fair”, if you know what the difference is, I don’t !

    1. Paint-work described as fair, basically requires a bare-metal respray.

    2. No obvious damage seen to body work, but not checked for electrolytic corrosion etc, etc.

    3. Under car not inspected for rust and rot, they didn’t want to get dirty I was told! For sure, out-riggers, sills, floor-pans and maybe more or less will need doing ?

    4. No access to engine, the engine pull release lever not opening bonnet, so catch jammed. Another example of this, seems a common problem.

    5. The engine untested, and car not in use for 17 years.

    6. Car with unconfirmed mileage of 67,000 miles

    6. Interior was described as fair – looks ok in picture

Caveat Emptor of course, but a very rare car none the less and imho, the estimate will be quickly demolished. A great car and superb engine and fabulous shape, lovely!

Before I forget, and you all rush in to bid, please, please don’t forget there will be a buyers premium on top of the hammer price. In my opinion, it is always best if possible, to buy your car privately, when the circus element is more under control and the number of bidders is reduced and price is more controllable.

A second car for Tim I would guess to join his brood………

What a shame that yet another chancer has got hold of this car, they are now calling it an Aston Martin.

I can enlighten you all, that the car was previosuly sold for 1020 pounds, the car was originally located in Epping, Surrey for this first sale

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110779765832?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_548wt_1280

The car was sold on eBay on 27/11/2011.

What a great shame that these chancers can’t simply sell the car and be done. It is a little sad to see these once fine cars sold like this. The 2.6 litre cars are very under-estimated.

The current seller has had a bid of 790 pounds, which is a little sad.
