    De Ville 16027 Radio.
The photo shows the radio in my car ,regretfully only this face plate exists, from my investigation it might be a Phillips , whatever it is has anybody ever managed to use the face plate and modify to use it as a modern radio.

Thanks, I bought W O Bentley book “The cars in my life” but could find no reference, it seems that he must have used it and I was told he did a tour round France in it, but no proof .
When I was an apprentice in the Petters (old Lagonda ) factory in Staines in the early 60’s I worked with several ex Lagonda employees and there were many lovely old stories about the V12 particularly and the wooden mock ups at the car exhibitions, particularly a guy called Chasemore (?) who claimed he was the liaison man between W O and the sales dept. They were interesting times.

On my 3.4 and 3.8 Jaguars I have been using 123 Ignition distributors from Holland with very impressive results. In discussions with them it would seem the Jaguar distributor fits the V12 and and as they have both rotations available I was wondering if I should fit them on my car. The advance curve is variable and being all electronic certain models can be interfaced with a laptop. Does anybody have exprience of electronic distributors on V12’s

It is Cotal switch you can see in the picture. My car 16027 was, I,m told, the only one fitted with this gearbox in the factory.
It seems to work fine but I started a full renovetion as soon as I bought the car and it has been in that state for 18 months now, progress is slow but worthwhile.
The car was shipped from UK to South Africa in 1949 but as the factory card is reported missing I have not been able to obtain more information, can enybody assist ?
I found a French company on the web who offered a lot of assistance on Cotal but I cannot remember the name.

On my V12 the front dampers were very worn internally, we found some Armstrong lever dampers at the local Vintage Car Club that were about the same size but in a totally different casting shape but on stripping then we found that the internals were exactly the same as the original Lagonda ones. We have rebuilt the old bodies with the good internals and with new bushes and seals they work very well

I trhink that quotation came from Arnold Davey,s book on the 4.5lt and V12. He did say the lights were from a Buick but also stated they were made from Mazak (pot metel)(page 45)

We have not yet fitted the sleeve on the crank scroll but we have a 2.5 thou interference and the Loctite will do the rest ,we hope !.
We do not use the dowls, the oil seal will centralize the plate on the crankshaft and the clearance on the flange holes will allow that to happen. The old retaining nuts are refitted.
The side plates have been painted with two part epoxy inside. We will use one of the normal anti corrosive addatives in the water.
I could stand corrected but the retaining studs on ,my engine are in blind holes so we do not currently have a water leak problem. and I appreciate the nuts are not correct ,but thet do finish the job nicely.

Latest pics of 16027 engine showing the new rear oil seal arrangenent, the scroll on thwe old seal area is filled with Loctite Metal Magis Steel and the new stainless ring shrunk on to the scroll area.
We did not want to remove the crank as all looks as new inside the crankcase.
The water jacket side plates are made from aluminium 10mm plate and machined for the cooling fins, finally cleaned up round the bolt area with an end mill.
New stainless 3/16 SS dome nuts complete the job.
