petemick8 May 2011 at 16:42 #48201A new potential new Lagonda owner has contacted me, and having made an offer already is keen to know if there is further information available which would assist him
petemick26 April 2011 at 15:34 #48180Thanks Julian, I am still waiting for the radiator and new side plates to be made so any advice would be welcome
petemick6 April 2011 at 18:01 #48154Thank you for that comment I was just packing goods to send to them.
petemick3 April 2011 at 08:55 #48150These pictures show the sediment in the water jacket and a general view of the flywheel end seal assembly.
petemick19 March 2011 at 13:19 #48126We have finally remooved the engine and there is no way we will go through that again !!!!. The rear oil seal we will rework with a stainless steel sleeve pressed over the scroll and a proprietory seal , I,ll advise the size, looks fairly easy.
We have all the expected problems ,corroded ally parts , block full of debris etc ,and that was all in the first day, not a good start.
I,ll post some pictures later in the weekpetemick25 February 2011 at 10:37 #48084I will keep that in mind thanks, it is a long term project and I was hoping not to have to dismantle the engine ,just cosmetic stuff but you know how it evolves
petemick23 February 2011 at 09:41 #48080Thank you , I,m familier with scroll seals and that could be the problem, associated with a high oil level. The oil literally poured out.
We will remove the engine next week as part of the renovation and I will remove the sump to check. The engine sounds sweet enough but is very tatty in appearance so all that needs to be attended too.
Can I buy a book that shows all the engine parts or an exploded view ?petemick17 January 2011 at 16:26 #47995The 20TPI cycle thread of 5/8 inch diameter bolt had a core dimension of .5719 perhaps your bolts have a slightly shallow thread depth and the nut is binding on the bottom of the thread. A similar problem could apply to a shallow thread on the nut but I doubt that.
petemick14 January 2011 at 10:13 #47987Thanks for your input ,I bought the book and look forward to seeing it
petemick24 December 2010 at 14:31 #47960At last I have found somebody who has bought the Holthusen book, please tell if its worth all that money?
petemick24 December 2010 at 12:44 #47959A week or so ago I sent an E mail to the Australian supplier of the water pump, to date no answer, would it be the same as was fitted by Volkswagen to some versions of the Kombi where the front radiator needed some assistance in circulating cooling water from the rear mounted water cooled engine?
petemick24 December 2010 at 12:38 #47958When I get more time I,ll remove the dashboard part to see if it has any makers name. The previous owner told me the radio was in the nearside cover near the jack ,I will have to ask him what happened to it.
petemick22 December 2010 at 08:13 #47954Thank you for that help, I will certainly remove the sump plate and clean out the sludge. They sell a monograde oil (SEA40) for high mileage engines here (South Africa taxi market) I think that would be a good starting point. My car has the Cotal electric gearbox which seems to work fine and was the only one factory fitted.
I was told that in our ambient temperatures overheating could be a problem ,hinted at by the previous owner, so apart from cleaning out the cooling system I was considering one of those auxiliary electric water pumps in the bottom hose, do you have any experience of this system?.I will need lots of help on all aspects of the rebuild so I really appreciate your assistance.
