    Hello Peter,
Thank you for letting us know what the problem was.
I am sure you WILL regret not buying the car especially as to sort out valve problems on a 2 Litre is very straight forward. It is possible to remove the cylinder head without effecting the timing which makes life very much easier.
I wish you the best of luck in your ongoing search for another car.

    Hello Peter
I have owned a 2 Litre High Chassis for many years and covered a high mileage with the car. On a recent trip to the Czech Republic I heard a slight knocking noise which came from the engine.
We got back to the UK without any issues although the noise became louder.
Prior to stripping my very well used 2 litre engine late last year, to identify what had gone wrong, I did a compression test and all my cylinders were around 120 psi which is more or less what I would have expected for a car which had done over 100,000 miles since it was last stripped down.
The horrible knock was caused by a failure of the white metal on the big ends

A reading as low reading of 60 psi would give me concern and needs to be investigated further. Ideally all the compression’s should be the same and normally are unless there is a problem.
To resolve the issue you would need to investigate further as there are a number of things that could be causing the problem.
If you require any further information please ask.

    Hi Peter,
Glad to see at last you have decided the HC Lagonda is better than your MG. You know I have owned both my MG and Lagonda HC for many, many years and have always said the Lagonda is a better car by design and far more reliable. Having said that I do enjoy driving my MG providing it keeps going.
    Good luck with your hunt.

    Hi all,
We have been away on a Lagonda holiday for the last 2 weeks so have not sent any e-mail responses as the documents are on my PC at home.
Will forward them when I get back later this week

This Rapier TH 5734 was originally an Abbott FHC. It was rebuilt as a 2 seater in 1963 and again in 1975. In 1999 it was in London UK
I notice from the web site the car has now been sold.

I found the following details on their web site along with a picture of the conrods

This may not help BUT I had a similiar problem with our MG 18/80 which did not have any provision for a thermostat at all. In this case I bought a modern thermostat for a 1970 mini from the local motor factors and them machined a housing in aluminium to hold the thermostat body. The outer end of the housing was turned at both ends so the top radiator hose could be cut and the unit installed in the middle. A relief pipe was fitted between this unit and the bottom radiator pipe to allow some flow when the thermostat was closed. Whilst this worked on the MG I dont know where you could insert it on 2 litre. Our 2 Litre high chassis currently runs without any thermostat in the housing and the engine runs cold. (especially in the current cold weather!!)

It seems you have got a good job done at a very attractive price. I had my MG 18/80 shell repaired and copper plated in the same way a couple of years ago and it cost me significantly more at that time!!!
Will certainly consider your contact. Thanks for letting us know.

    Well done ALL.
    What a splendid result.
Many thanks for the pictures which really show all the hard work undertaken.
Even if it took a long time it will be well worth it

We attended this rally in our 1929 2 litre high chassis and arrived home yesterday after making an extended holiday. UW 2193 ran, like Peter’s, without any faults and we covered just under 1200 miles with a fuel consumption of 26 MPG.
We would also like to thank all the people who made this holiday happen. A lot of hard work went on behind the scenes to make the whole operation run very smoothly. VERY well done to all concerned.

    Hi Colin,
Just a short post to thank you for all the hard work you have put in to get the online spares system up and running. I had a look at it a few weeks ago prior to it becoming operational. It seemed very good at that time.
I will now have a further look and sort out if I need to order anything. I wil then give it a try!!!
    best wishes

I have several pictures of this and other Lagonda light cars taken between 1948 and 1950 by my father. Are these of interest to you?
(I emailed your myspace friend ViaChaotica before I found this forum.)

    What a great picture.
I am sure Ken Painter (Lagonda Club magazine editor) would be very intereseted in the other pictures you refer to. He is always on the look out for period photo’s. Ken is a user on this forum so you can contact him via email (user name Ken Painter)

many thanks for the picture on forum
