    Hi Bru,
My cars are 1939 so different P100 internals. But, firstly, it won’t be focussing. To focus the bulb you need to slide it in or out of its holder, presumably there will be a locking screw or clamp. My car as purchased was really bad…didn’t know until my first night-time drive. The lamps projected huge rings of light with black centres…so you couldn’t actually see the road! To focus them you need a really dark area with ideally a dark wall to shine the light on, & from a good distance, experiment! Unfortunately I don’t have my motoring books handy, but a really good set is called “Motor Overhaul & Repair”, published by Newnes. They’re not particularly rare & often come up on ebay. You could probably still buy a decent set for ?10-?20 stirling. These cover jobs such as this in great detail. Probably best to check publication date as they were printed way into the sixties, so a pre-war (mine is 1940 so perfect for me!) to early fifties set would be good.
Back to your problem…the issue is more likely to be that an adjustable stop for the dipping mechanism needs re-setting. My P100s have solenoid dip whereas yours are probably mechanical? Whatever, follow the mechanism through, & hopefully you’ll find an adjustment, a bent rod, or a stop needing a tweek!

    Hi Eckhard,
We’ve met a number of times at the AGM, I also have V12 drophead, which you probably haven’t seen as it’s been off the road since 1982 … my engine rebuild is finally happening now, by Mel Cranmer.
The problem you refer to is I understand fairly common with V12s. My understanding is that this vibration is nearly always caused by incorrect alignment of the engine & gearbox. There was an article I believe by Michael Valentine on this subject many years ago in the club magazine. I strongly suspect this will be the case with yours in view of the amount of work you’ve done. You will find washers (or should!) between the engine bearer arms and mountings, likewise shims under the gearbox mountings. Hope this helps!

    Hi Adrian,
I have a V12 with original factory body & is missing the ARB. There is no way one would bolt onto the holes in the shock absorber lever arms without fouling the underside of the floor. It is a late car (1940 & entirely rebuilt by the factory in 1945) so it is quite possible the factory did away with them. The shock absorbers were replaced with non-adjustable ones in 1953 & it is possible the lever arms were mounted higher up the unit than the original pattern ones, but I would have thought that unlikely. My understanding is there are arguments for & against ARBs, & certainly the handling was fine … never felt “I must get an ARB!” I’d certainly check & see if fitting is viable first.
