It would be great if a few Taraf owners joined the club. We would open a new section on the forum for them.
Rich, AML brought one along to the AMOC Woburn Spring Concours. Shame you missed it but I was fortunate that my 1.5 litre mkII was parked near it so had plenty of time to decide whether I like it.
David Bracey3 November 2015 at 23:30 #51547Dear Bill,
In my LG45 I use Mahle OX 50 oil filters. They are 149mm long but only 70mm OD and 33mm ID. I hope this helps.
Regards,
David
David Bracey6 October 2015 at 16:20 #51492Hi All,
Bill, thanks for posting that photo. A marvelous momento of a fabulous weekend.
This was the first Lagonda Club event that we have been to as a family and I can tell anyone yet to experience the combined an unfailing generosity of the members that they are missing out. We really couldn’t have been made more welcome and, from a personal point of view, I found the wealth of combined knowledge and freely offered advice such a fantastic help. Thanks to everyone.
The organisers (they know who they are) did a superb job and we will definitely be back next year.
Thanks again,
David
David Bracey16 September 2015 at 13:40 #51446Good question Rich. I had always assumed that it was down to the worm gear on the end of the magneto shaft and that you would simply use a different gear. No?
David Bracey8 September 2015 at 20:40 #51436I’ve not had that problem Bill but my engine was pretty much built from new parts so didn’t have years of accumulated crud to contend with. I see your point though.
In truth, after running my car in on shortish journeys with the filter I’ve since removed it as I didn’t want to restrict any flow on long trips. I’m intending to replace it but haven’t got round to it yet.
David Bracey8 September 2015 at 15:00 #51434I believe it is my LG45 that Radman refers to. It seems to do the job nicely.
David Bracey17 August 2015 at 18:21 #51411Blimey, I feel under pressure to confirm that I’m not “one of them!”
Seriously though, I am happy to welcome anyone who either has a Lagonda or just admires them. I don’t care what sort of an idiot or annoying creature they may be quite frankly. Some might well put me in that category and I wouldn’t argue.
However, despite what opinion one might form of a celebrity from reports in the media or their own representation on TV, I have rarely found that those that like and admire old cars are not thoroughly decent people.
I know that this forum isn’t exclusive to members of the Lagonda Club (rightly so) but perhaps we should try and contact Mr Hamster and encourage him to join. Anyone know how to contact him?
David Bracey21 July 2015 at 17:52 #51353Lower pressure has certainly seemed to help sort out the ‘wandering’ but it hasn’t made any difference to the ‘shimmy’. I’ve popped the fronts up to 30psi and will try that. I’m heading down to Paris in a couple of weeks so will get a decent run to test things out.
David Bracey7 June 2015 at 20:57 #51290I am running Michelins.
The reason I asked about pressures is that I tried them at 35psi and they rolled about the road constantly. I dropped them to 27psi and it was still a job to keep in a straight line on lanes but motorways were a lot better.
I was loathe to reduce further but since receiving Bill’s comments I dropped the pressures to 23psi and the test ride I had was much improved. I will test further but so far so good.

David Bracey29 May 2015 at 17:40 #51279has anyone any recommendations for tyre pressures with an LG45 saloon?
David Bracey25 May 2015 at 18:07 #51276David, It’s not the easiest of things to photograph without removing wheels and having a ramp/lift but I’ve done my best.
The gaiters are in 2 halves per spring and don’t wrap the spring bolts. I suspect our cars have a slightly different arrangement. Please call me if I can help further. Sorry if not much use.
DavidDavid Bracey19 May 2015 at 10:34 #51266Will definitely check that chamfer next time I strip it apart.
Yes, I think I am getting there. No engine problems and only a few niggles to shakedown. All pretty minor compared to seized engines.
I’m aiming to put another 1,000 miles on the car before the AGM and if that all goes well then I think I will be confident that I’ve a really well sorted car.
Thanks for your help again Bill.
David Bracey18 May 2015 at 20:13 #51264Hi Bill,
Thanks for checking this for me. I was reassured that yours and mine are in the same ballpark.
I’ve nipped up any slack and just a little adjustment here and there has made quite a cumulative difference. The travel is now down from 40mm to about 28mm so I am very happy with that. Was very surprised such small adjustments made such a difference.
Thanks again.
David
