Looking good, Christian. Who did you use (for the body work)?

Hi Peter, thank you (I put ‘Copyright Peter Schirg’)

Peter, may I steal one of your beautiful photographs for my Facebook Timeline cover?

What round hole? There is a slot in the rear parcel shelf, from which hot air emanates.

As David says, what about the aperture in the rear parcel shelf?

Here you are……… they don’t show the visible faults as well as I’d like (and they make the paint colour and condition look much better than they were).

I will try and upload later a few photographs of some of the ‘faults.

I think that they were actually touching the body (or as good as). I did try and take a photograph of the problem and will try and upload it later (though, it’s not very good).

I was wondering whether shimming would, or could, be the answer for 129. It seemed to me that the profile of the trailing edge of each bumper might be ‘wrong’ for that car, but I can’t be sure. David, could you possibly upload an appropriate photograph of one of your bumpers for comparison, please?

Not sure I understand your point about ‘bias’, Simon. As you know, I am very fond of all the DB Lagondas.

I could not live with the paint or the leather. The front door gap on the off side was huge – perhaps half an inch. The whole thing just looked like the kind of car cobbled together by some bozzo from their garage at home (even though that isn’t quite the case here) and you know how I hate that sort of thing. 😀

I do agree about the merit of keeping the original box and fitting a period overdrive (or equivalent). I still think that the market values originality in the specification unless there are other factors at play e.g. the market never wishes that the Borg Warner slush box had been retained in a DB4/5/6.

It is a well sorted car – but, that’s all. It isn’t a stunning example, by any means. And, the poorly fitted bumpers and the wheels let it down. Oh, and this Webasto is not a period feature but a rather a relatively recent addition to the car.

Circa ?147k is a new high for a Rapide. Not bad for a cat 2/3 car with very poorly fitted bumpers and Jag wheels and spinners (and a Webasto).

Yes, and not actually a nice car at all, IMHO. Some dreadful shut lines, very average paint (nasty combo), dropped n/s front door, incorrect trim (hubcaps wrong, rear badge wrong etc.), horrid retrim, faulty boot, stupid g/box substitute, almost all the work done by non-specialists etc. etc.. Just think what a really good car should make now!

I’m not sure that I get your point, David. My understanding is that things can be both contemporary and anachronistic. By way of examples, I would cite string vests, teasmaids, and the Morgan Plus 4. 😮

I do not seek to denigrate those who favour Webastos or, indeed, any of the above (I, myself, like Morgans). However, all these things (and many others one could think of) are surely anachronistic and, to the eyes of many, without redeeming features.

As i suggest, surely the only thing worth debating in this context is whether the addition of a Webasto affects the value of the car so encumbered and, if it does, to what degree? If that’s right, isn’t it fair enough to suggest that the bloody things are not popular in the market place? 😀
