I think I can shed a bit of light on the identity of Mr Thomas.

‘Doctor in Distress’, the film which features the Rapide in the clip above, was directed by Ralph Thomas, brother of Gerald Thomas of ‘Carry on’ film fame.

Hi SRD, I wondered about that since it was logical that the Peter Rogers car would have been used as a ‘prop’ during filming. Has it had a registration number change during its life, since the number appears to be different to that on the car you’re now restoring?

I googled ‘lagonda rapide on film’ and it all came up. The imcdb.org site is full of film related stuff. Was hoping I could find a picture of the Rapide I remember from the 1970s in Kingsbury motors.

Great pictures. Do you know if the engine turns over, and are you going to try to get it started before dismantling?

I’m currently restoring a Daimler Double Six which had been standing for seventeen years, and after some difficulties I got it running. The engine itself is in superb condition.

Could be an additional security device. Have seen similar fitted in cars of that era.

I think that the knob is possibly a speaker balance for the radio, if it’s had a second speaker fitted. Switch could be for anything, and the button… maybe it’s a starter button?

An amazing find. Whereabouts did you get it from?

Hi, thanks for the replies. It is like the car below in the picture. Beautiful car and the owner is very fortunate indeed to own such a lovely vehicle.

Hi, thanks to you both for your posts. I’m sure the car was maroon.. it may have been bronze, one’s memory fades a bit after nmearly forty years. But the interior was definitely beige. It was the first Lagonda Rapide I’d ever seen, and I really liked the look of the car. Wish I could recall the registration number. I watch a lot of old British films/TV, and always hoping to see it in something.
