For information, I spent quite some time last year trying to find the best match of grey for my 2 Litre engine. I liaised with a number of club members and intend to write something about it for the club magazine at some point. The best match that I could find can be supplied by any Dulux Trade paint centre of which I belive there are 200 plus in the UK. It has to be specially mixed but it is Dulux Metalshield Gloss code 11080,70BG22031.

To give a quick update…. I was unable to purchase anything suitable despite a number of internet searches and false leads, so my local blacksmith made a small jig then manufactured two out of 0.9mm stainless steel which have worked fine.
I had them made wide enough so that I could hold them with a 9/16W spanner which then made it relatively straightforward to hold them in place whilst I tightened the head nuts with a torque wrench.
If anyone else is searching for something similar, just let me know. If there is any interest, its maybe something that the club could stock in future.

I would suggest that you might try contacting Bishopgray and see if they can help you.

There is another potential issue with the fuel switch in that the internal hole diameters are slightly too small and can restrict fuel flow particularly when running for long periods with large throttle openings such as on a Motorway….. which probably wasnt a big problem in the 1920’s ! While you are working on the switch, unless this has already been done, it might also be worthwhile trying to see if you can get the holes enlarged.

This is just a theory….. however since fitting a new water pump to my High Chassis 2 litre, I have found that if running for a period above 2800 rpm on a Motorway etc that I lose water because it cant flow through the radiator quickly enough so rises up the radiator and then exits through the overflow. Whilst my radiator isnt new, it appears to be in reasonable condition. I think ideally I need something to reduce the flow from the pump and whilst I currently dont have a thermostat fitted, I suspect that the restriction this would create even when open would definately help….. so that could well be another reason why fitting a thermostat is a good idea !
