Good morning.
I have just joined the forum. I have a passion for old British marques, and have over the years owned various Jaguars (Not the modern types) and currently own a 1973 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow which is a delight to drive. I am an engineer (mechanical) by trade, serving an apprenticeship with Guy Salmon of Teddington/Thames Ditton where is serviced and maintained many old Jaguar/Rolls-Royce motor cars.
Anyway enough about me, I’ll cut to the chase.
I attended this auction in Richard Edmonds, Chippenham Wiltshire and bought a few trinkets, one of which was a huge crankshaft! It transpires this is the crankshaft you mentioned in the post above, and it is from an M45 (Meadows?) 6 cylinder engine. I’ll be honest, the initial plan was to give it a good clean up, then make some kind of standing lamp with it (sacrilegious I know!).
However, when I finally got to have a good inspection of it, it appears it is new, with no witness marks on the gear and covered in wax oil with part of an old card/label attached. This made me call a halt to my plan re the lamp…
I wondered if it would be of any use to anyone here as a spare as it seems such a shame to make a lamp from it, as that would mean removing the wax oil, therefore attracting corrosion and removing any proof of originality?
So, in summary, does anyone need a crankshaft for an M45 which to my eye looks new?
