Hello, following on from my posts on this forum back in July & August I have taken the plunge and become the proud owner of the 16/80 pictured below. I am buying it from a Lagonda Club member who meticulously rebuilt it between 2000 to 2007.
I know some of the detailing is not correct cosmetically but I can live with that and correct it in due course. Incidentally, did 16/80s with the T7 body ever have folding windscreens like some I’ve seen on the M45 T7? And… did any of them have the ‘Double Diamond’ embossed on the passenger’s door interior? This one does not.
I will be familiarising myself with it this coming weekend so maybe I will meet some of you at the AGM.
Rgds Rich…
RobO29 September 2015 at 21:47 #51470Looks fantastic, look forward to meting you at the AGM
All the best
RobO30 September 2015 at 04:06 #51471Great looking car – congrats
Adrian30 September 2015 at 08:53 #51472Well done Rich, you will not regret it.
Regarding a fold flat windscreen … not as standard.
All 16/80 windscreens (somebody will probably correct me on this) were hinged at the top to fold outwards from the bottom to allow for de-misting of the screen.
They would also have had an external Klaxon wiper motor fitted (very few 16/80?s still have this arrangement).See you at the AGM
Best Regards
ChrisRichard Branch30 September 2015 at 21:27 #51474Thanks chaps, I’ll post up more when I get it. On that subject, I may not get to the AGM this weekend as I only get the car on Saturday so it may be at an event later in the year before I meet some of you. 🙂 Rich
TVJL1 October 2015 at 13:39 #51475Great news, Richard, and well done. I will be at the AGM, without any kind of nice car accompanying me. You could always do the same? 😀
Best,
Tim
1 October 2015 at 13:59 #51476Oh go on Rich, break it in & bring it to the AGM.
I’ll have my usual ton of spares with me as no doubt will others if anything goes wrong (which it won’t).
Its also meant to be suuny on the Sunday or though I may now have cursed that.

I have a spare wiper of this type but it doesnt seem to be made by Klaxon – ie I cant find any maker name on it. Mine is a long rectangular tube with a motor bolted to it. Is this the same ?
Thanks for any input.2 October 2015 at 11:11 #51478Hello Bill,
I’m not 100% sure, I think there is a period picture in one of the Lagonda books showing this wiper motor attached to a 3 litre Saloon (I’ll have a look in the attic this evening to see if I can find the book).
Regarding the Klaxon branding, it’s only on the riveted on plaque.
This plaque has to be removed to get to the bolt attaching the motor to the rectangular tube so it’s easily lost/broken.I’ve attached a picture of my one (yet to be fitted) and one I saw on a 3.5 litre tourer at the AGM in 2011
Best Regards
Chrisbill2 October 2015 at 17:16 #51480Hi Chris
Thanks very much for posting the picture. Yes that is the one I have. Thanks very much for confirming that it is Klaxon !
I think this is therefore the same one as used on the 3 litre saloon and the very early (ST24 body I think ?) 4.5 litre saloon.
Many thanks again.2 October 2015 at 21:14 #51483There are a few klaxon wiper motors fitted to Club Members cars, Brian Savill’s 16/80s come to mind. I am currently in the process of restoring one for my M45. Not a project to be rushed I would suggest. The Mazack housings for the wiper spindles are especially vulnerable. No doubt Colin Mallet will have some advice and I was appreciative of his thoughts. At this stage I am not confident of success but it certainly is a challenge. There is a good reason why so few klaxon wipers survive!
5 October 2015 at 21:06 #51489Chris,
Just looking at your photographs of the klaxon wiper bar – I have just noticed that the wiper spindles are “inward facing” and therefore will need to be changed when you fit it. I think the wiper bar was originally and inboard and top of screen from the photograph of the motor. Good luck.
6 October 2015 at 08:46 #51490Hello Stephen,
Well spotted, the pictures posted were pre-restoration.
The only person for correct advice on the Klaxon wiper motor is Brian Savill.
Best Regards
