I really love the Poirot film series. I was presented with a huge DVD box with these films by a friend. Absolutely nice characters with Hercule Poirot, Mrs Lemon, Inspector Japp and Captain Hastings who is driving his 2ltr LC in many of the earlier films (about 70 films in total). One of my favorites of the later films is “The Hollow” (you can find it on the internet) where a nice young lady is driving another 2ltr LC. She is overtaking Poirot and when she arrives, asked by friends about her car: “It is a Lagonda, it goes like the wind” (minutes 6:38 to 8:40 in the film)

    Hi Peter,

More significantly, for you and me, I recall watching one of the pre-war or wartime “Saint” series of films, starring George Sanders. In one, he drives a V12 dhc, and the sound of the engine made me wonder if mine would sound like that, once rebuilt. Still waiting to find out!

Actually, Hastings’ car is a 16/80.

The radiator does not look like 16/80 but is hidden behind a stoneguard. In the film “The adventure of Johnnie Waverly” the car is braking down (Hastings later finds out it was because he ran out of fuel). He opens the bonnet and tinkers around with the carburettors and you can perfectly see the 2ltr engine.

Look up the car in the members register – I don’t have it here but I remember it’s known and listed as a 16/80.

Capt Hasting’s Lagonda is a 2 Litre – here’s a good image of the engine, quite clear to see.

Not to mention the larger diameter wheels and fabric T2 body.

The Poirot series was made over many years and the simple fact is that a number of Lagondas was used by the Hastings character. Mostly LC 2 litres but also 16/80 for a time.

I have seen all of the Poirot films and have no recolection of a 16/80.
A couple of 2ltr LC yes, but no 16/80.
I could be wrong, but as a 16/80 owner myself I’m sure that I would have noticed.
Please prove me wrong somebody, I’d love to see a 16/80 especilay with Hastings at the wheel.
By the way, does anybody think that Miss Lemon is quite hot?

Interesting debate. I am very surprised by that Blown2L, is there a still form a Poirot episode with a 16/80 most episodes can be found on Youtube.

As far as I’m concerned Hastings’ car is a 2 Litre in every episode. I am in agreement with Chris on this, I have loads of Poirot episodes on my hard drive and watch them when I’m bored. I love the cars, the costumes and of course the stories but never seen a 16/80 .The radiator grill is, of course, very different so it would be instantly noticeable.
