Good evening, thanks for including me in your membership. A short note by way of introduction and my plan for a recent Lagonda purchase. Petrol runs in my veins, I have restored quite a few cars over the years, I hill climb my Porsche 914 annually at Bo’ness, Tour in my 912, and tinker with an old Steel Ketch in the Mediterranean. My home is just outside Edinburgh but I spend a lot of time on the boat. Always had an ambition to build my own ‘Special’, so here we go. I look forward to meeting, chatting and one day driving with you.
I have just purchased a DB2.6 Saloon that sadly is past its best and far from complete. I am hopeful that I will be able to save the chassis and as much of the aluminium and leather as possible, to build a special in a style still to be decided. I have always loved the AM Ulster and Delaware 130S but a lot to do before deciding my theme.
I will be careful as a new member not to offend with the choice of Engine and Transmission, I have some ideas from the more obvious to frankly the outrageous! Your thoughts and input welcome.
I’d love to hear ideas and experiences from Garagistes’ building Lagonda Specials. I will update periodically but progress will initially be quite slow.
Thanks again, looking forward to the journey.
Paul Farrell
P.s. If drawings of the chassis exist would appreciate any information and anything at all about Lagonda “Specials”
A R Bowie16 October 2024 at 17:39 #71531I was interested to see your query on the Forum asking for any thoughts on a DB 2.6 ‘special’ and have waited to see if anyone else replied with any details. Of course it always sad perhaps when a car get to the stage of only being suitable for spares or re-use (upcycling) as a special.
I am aware of 4 specials which will be known in the Club, one based on the EX1 chassis (Registration RSU420), and one built by John Weatheritt, (Registration JDF47) which was sold at auction a few years ago, these are broadly based on Le Mans style ideas. Some pictures can be seen on Ron Press’s website – the Lagonda – Post War Models (lagonda1949-1958.co.uk)
There are also 2 other specials, one finished, one which was still in construction in an article written by the owner Roger Darnell on the same website with some photographs, the one under construction being styled on a BRM P25/Ferrari 375.
On a slightly different tangent, I have seen details on the Daimler Forum of a special built on a Daimler Majestic which looks to be very professionally assembled, if you are interested see Daimler Majestic Special YYL 30 – (dloc.co.uk)
It will be interesting to see how your project develops.
