I am searching for the following, for a DB 3-Litre:
– wheel embellishers,
– dashboard ashtray,
– tool-kit,
– owners manual.:search: Anyone has some of those?
TVJL2 May 2011 at 14:46 #48193Hi there,
Re each of your discrete questions, …..
(1) The wheel embellishers are very difficult to source. If you find a set (off or on the wheels) such are usually too rusty to repair and rechrome – they are quite thin items. I recall that one Lagonda Club member a few years back said that he was going to have some sets of modern replacements made up but I do not know whether this happened.
(2) The ashtrays do turn up from time-to-time. i can’t recall whether I have a spare myself but will have a look when I’m next down in my store room.
(3) Tool kits are just about impossible to find – indeed, I remain unclear as to precisely what was included originally. Certainly, such would include I think: the starting handle; the drain tap tool; the Jackall pump arm; a grease gun; a set of W/BSF spanners; a plug spanner; a wooden handled screwdriver; a set of pliers; a tommy bar; and a wheel nut spanner. If anyone does have an original tool set for their DB Lagonda, do please let us know what it contains.
(4) I do have both the instruction manual that came with my car (which is not in great condition) and a spare that is in very good condition (which I am not keen to part with, btw). However, these items come up fairly frequently on eBay.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Tim
Peter S302 May 2011 at 16:22 #48194Hi,
concerning the wheel embellishers: After some internet searching in 2008 I concluded (I don?t remember how and why) that a set specified as “Austin A40 Devon,Somerset S/S AceType Wheel Rim” from classiccarparts-uk.co.uk would fit. The seller wrote to me at that time:
“I have supplied some of these for a Lagonda before. They measure approx 42.5cm in outer diameter, with the inner diameter being approx 34cm and the width is just short of 2″.They are for a 16″ wheel…The Lagonda i supplied them for was 1950 – 1958,2.6 to 3 Litre. Does this sound like what you are after? Regards A.M”
They are in stainless steel (not chrome) longer lasting but not the same brilliance as chrome. Mounting was very difficult because they would fit better if they were 5 mm larger in diameter. I had to modify the fixing clips.
Here are similar looking ones, on ebay from the same seller: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALVIS-TA-21-S-S-Ace-Type-Rim-Embellisher-/390309158202?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ae03d1d3a
Best you check with him about dimensions. Let us know the result of your research -
