Hello folks,
First post on here and a cheeky one as I am looking for help. My father (who restores vintage cars as a hobby) has a compete radiator for a Lagonda in his garage, I have no idea how he came across this item but anyone who has a 70 year old car nut in the family will probably know how this happens as they seem to find and keep everything that “might” come in handy!! 😆
Anyway, he is having a clearout as he is getting one of his cars back soon (MGA) so all shiny things that are not needed need to be sold.
Can anyone help me as to what I should even charge for such an item? Or where I should even try and sell it? I am not really a fan of ebay.

Hi, you should make a few photos and load them up (compress them to 50-100 kB file size each, this is enough) and load them up as an attachment to your post (“Manage Attachments”). Price depends on condition: dents in the chrome (if it comes with the chrome shell), general condition of chrome, condition of the radiator itself. As it does not come from a car there is no experience if it is tight and how much corroded inside.
You can offer it for sale here for free.I forgot: please give the dimensions this helps to identify the model

😆 Hence me finding this forum. We have never owned a Lagonda so have no clue to what car it came from, only that it was a lagonda.

It looks similar to a Lagonda 16/80 model which was produced between 1932 -1935, with 261 cars being produced.
The slats were introduced in 1932 in the 16/80 and the 2ltr Continental but the latter radiator was sloping so it’s not one of those.
The later M35 & M45 had slatted radiators with the same filler cap but the radiators were larger and more rounded.
If it is a 16/80 there is one advertised on http://www.prewarcars.com – Lagonda Spares priced at E 1750 but the radiator, shell and slats have been restored and that could have cost nearly that to restore. You could advertise in the Lagonda Club newsletter and ask for offers.
Good luck, hope dad enjoys the MGA.Actually it is not a 16/80 radiator, which is flat at the bottom and the starting handle passes underneath, rather than through it.
I hav a few nice pictures of a 16/80 radiator but they have a big format. If anybody could explain to me how to reduce the format I can upload them.
I think the radiator in question is from a standard Rapier.I take the point about the 16/80 starter handle hole.
From photographs I’ve examined the original Rapier radiator shell did’t appear to have any cutouts at the base like this one. Perhaps this has been chopped about (a special maybe) which will reduce its value.In the left-hand photo the radiator in question is leaning against a traditional English telephone box, and fits exactly between the inner window frames.
That would tell you the width of the radiator shell – I can’t check it here (I am not in Britain) but I am pretty sure that it is not as wide as radiators for 16/80, 3.5L or 4.5L, in which case a standard Rapier radiator (which are narrower) is still the most likely option.
Rapiers were bodied by others than Lagonda – but the radiator and shell were produced in Staines and usually came with the car. However, they were then often modified to fit the new body.Hi Folks
It’s not a 16/80 radiator for the reasons already mentioned.
Here is a Rapier radiator for comparison. I think this is what it is. One should budget at least GBP 1700 to restore and re-chrome it, I would value it at no more than GBP 150 and even thatI think is on the generous side.

ps I sold the Rapier and now have a 16/80 instead
I think that from the width of the shell one may safely conclude that it was meant for a Lagonda Rapier.
However, there are fewer slats at the front so it is still a different type from Colin’s radiator.
I wouldn’t venture a guess at the value – if somebody desperately needs this he would probably be prepared to pay a good sum.
Original Lagonda radiators with shell are rare – especially when you need one. It might be an idea to contact the Rapier owners club.Hey Folks,
Many thanks for all your help on this, I have not forgotten about it as I want to get better pics and proper dimentions, but everything on hold till after the new year.
If I can I will post the “oldies” my dad has…….. and I will sneek in my yankiee muscle car also 😆
