A new rattle developed about 4 miles from home and an odd feeling on the clutch pedal. I limped home and as I was halfway into my garage there was an almighty bang and the car would move. Fearing the worst I shut the door and tried not to think about it until today. Took the carpets out and there’s a big split in the floor over the fabric coupling. Floor up and the three bolts on the engine side are now sitting in the tray underneath and three fabric coupling is no longer coupled. Trying to assess the damage it looks like the clutch stop adjuster is bent but I’m uncertain if I can simply refit the bolts, straighten and adjust the clutch stop. Is there anything else I should be looking at while I’m down there?

It turns out that the bolts on the engine side of the fabric coupling were just too short to make contact with the nylon locking part of the locknuts which means they worked loose. Once one was loose the vibration shook the others loose quite quickly. Fingers crossed the only visible damage is the adjuster for the clutch brake which was bent. It should be a simple job to straighten that or make another as it’s just a threaded rod. I post this so that anyone taking a look under there might want to check that the bolts run right through the nyloc nuts (or aerolock nuts) or at least check them for tightness.
