What are the best recomendations?
What do you use today?
Mine are NGK AB6 but find they soot up easily in queues?
Julian Messent5 October 2012 at 11:18 #49689AB6 are correct but if sooting up then try 5s as long as you are sure your mixture is ok.
Do you have a Tripple Confuser or an SU ?We usually convert to 14mm plugs and un shroud the plugs inside the head. Works a lot beter.

Julian9 October 2012 at 16:45 #49694Thanks Julian, I am running with twin SUs – which have been on my car for a long time, better than zeniths by all accounts? Still think I am running a bit rich, but will try AB5s to compare.
What are others using??
Julian Messent16 October 2012 at 14:45 #49704Hi Christopher,
SUs are a massive improvement over the Zeniths so glad you have them.
If you are running rich, just try a quarter turn in on the jets and see how it runs.

JulianG Swindley8 July 2023 at 17:57 #62970Hi Julian
I hope that you still read the forum? Would you mind explaining what your unshrouding process is?
I presume you drill out the inside of the combustion chamber. Also fit thread adapters m18>m14 on the outside.
Do you then tap the inside of the head m14? Or do the m14 plugs but against the back of the combustion chamber?
What plugs do you use?
Thanks
Graham
Colin & Valerie Bugler9 August 2023 at 10:59 #64502I also have a problem with my plugs sooting up.
I am unable to find NGK AB-5 plugs. Can anyone suggest a supplier?

Tim & Fiona Miller22 April 2025 at 18:43 #75964I know I am replying to a rather old thread but after discussion about sooty AB6 plugs in a LC 2 litre last year, we are running fine on AB2s. This might seem a huge jump but according to Green Spark Plug Co. it isn’t really. Just keep an eye on the insulators to check they don’t then run too hot. There seems to be a school of thought in some circles that modern fuel in old cars works better with a slightly hotter plug.
