Hi everyone,
I know that it?s possible to fit modern dual filament lamps and lamp holders into P100?s but I love the solenoid dipping function. So I am looking for another internal reflector with solenoid to swap over the internals of my drivers side one that currently extinguishes.
If anyone can help me out then please get in touch.
Thanks,
David
Richard Branch17 October 2018 at 16:04 #52892Hi David, I may be wrong but I think the original idea of only having one fitted with the solenoid was that the driver’s headlamp dipped and the nearside headlamp remained fixed ahead. Compared to today’s laser beam, piercing white lights I don’t think they would dazzle anyone anyway!
h1417 October 2018 at 18:31 #52894Might be different for earlier P100s, but I’m pretty sure my spare pair are unaltered from the prewar set up, which is not as Rich thinks, but one dipping and the other extinguishing. On these, the non-dipping one has the dipping reflector, indeed everything bar the dipping solenoid itself. So it may be that all you need is the solenoid assembly, which should come with the actuating pin. So worth opening the lamp concerned and seeing if the reflector is on pivots.

Unfortunately, no. My extinguishing one does not have the dipping brackets or fixings to accept them, I?ve got another dipping reflector with working solenoid but it?s for a rear mounted lamp rather than a front mounted lamp and so it cannot be swapped over.
Colin has said that he thinks he may have what I need and has invited me to visit him at some point and rummage through his boxes of bits.
If anyone wants a dipping reflector with rear lamp then let me know.
David
Colin M3417 October 2018 at 21:54 #52896David’s dipper is perfect for a V12 Lagonda. I am doing the same for my M45 and can find him one for his car.
I think this is a better arrangement and will use a really powerful single bulb.

DavidLG4518 October 2018 at 08:14 #52898Hi David,
If they are anything like mine the dipping reflector sits in a cradle (the black bit in the diagram). The reflector is then mounted on the cradle which also has the solenoid. If I remember rightly the same reflector will fit (could be mistaken). There are alternative mounting holes for the cradle, depending on which way you want it to dip.
I managed to get a cradle from the Realcar company in North Wales, the RR dealer. I emailled them a photo and surprisingly they had an exact match. This was some time ago but worth a try if Colin hasn’t got what you need.
The bits are sitting in a box awaiting attention. Unfortunatly I have a back issue at the moment otherwise I would get the bits out and photograph them for you.
I hope this helps
David
Colin M3418 October 2018 at 09:40 #52899How much did the Real Car Company charge for the cradle? They are getting scarce now.
David Bracey18 October 2018 at 10:11 #52900Thanks everyone.
The pivoting cradle is riveted to the refelctor and as I have had my reflector nicely silvered I don’t fancy hacking it about unnecessarily. It sound like Colin will be able to help so I’ll hold off until then and hopefully I can offer mine to a V12 owner.

DavidLG4518 October 2018 at 14:07 #52901Hi Colin,
It was a few years ago (10 plus) and I don’t really remember but I don’t think what they charged me was very much. Maybe ?20 or ?30 at a guess.
