Would anyone know what other cars use the same outer door handles or where I can purchase some? Similarly, the bakerlite door locks? (the horn shaped ones on the door top) Or if there is similar I can bastardise!
Regards,
Guy Vinall.
[email protected]David4 December 2011 at 17:42 #48603Guy, something in the back of my mind says door handles may be same as P5 Rover. Sorry no idea about internal door locks – Rover again?
Guy Vinall4 December 2011 at 20:05 #48604David, thank you for this. I have a pal in the P5 club & he will be able to help. Best wishes, Guy.
Guy Vinall8 December 2011 at 18:19 #48612David, “that something in the back of your mind about the door handles being Rover P5” was correct!!!! Many thanks!
Guy.Christian17 April 2012 at 21:47 #48940Can’t believe I missed this one – yes I’ve been buying any good P5 handles I come accross – not many out there though!
SRD21 May 2012 at 21:27 #49191I would use the search term, “door lock button”, that is what they appear to be called. I didn’t know this either when I started searching, best of luck.
Seems to be a lot of Rover P5 parts on this car, but these seem to be equally hard to find as well.
Christian22 May 2012 at 07:10 #49192I spent a good while last night looking for the correct lock pushes, I found the words ‘lock knob’ worked well. I’m inclined to think they are from a Mercedes – they seem Germanic in style… Surely they weren’t purpose made for AM?
SRD22 May 2012 at 07:21 #49193I think you are 100% correct, and the shape at the top appears to be most unsual.
Like so many parts on this car, they have been sourced from a variety of places, and were I believe bought in, in small batches.
Not economical for AM to have made them in such a small batch, the tooling and mould cost would have been to high
I can tell you that they are not the same as those in a 1960’s, Jaguar, Ford or Alvis and I suspect that you are pretty spot on, with Mercedes, a good choice. How about the VW Karman Ghia as well or other large volume manufacturers of the period ??
Christian28 May 2012 at 10:13 #49263Still can’t find the right door lock pulls, the closest I can find are these:
I’ve bought some because they are close in look and date and should do me until we found out what they should be…
SRD29 May 2012 at 16:54 #49265I saw these and though they would be the closest you were going to find, I think a very good choice.
Christian9 June 2012 at 19:20 #49316The alternative lock pulls were waiting for me when I got back from my holiday today, unfortunately they are a bit too big. I wonder if the originals are actually something else which has been adapted – something not related to cars – unusual end shape…
SRD11 June 2012 at 21:51 #49321Can you not use these at all, or is the outer diameter to wide. The tops look a very good match, and i suspect that this is the correct source or am I wrong ?
Christian11 June 2012 at 22:11 #49322They could possibly be used and would look ok, need to file ‘Taiwan’ off the bottom first though. I might get some machined in Alu to match the originals – internal thread might be a problem though… The originals must be out there somewhere!
Guy Vinall3 November 2012 at 12:25 #49794Christian hello again. If you decide to get these remade in aluminium, put me down for 5 please. Regards, Guy.
Outer door handles are Rover P5 Coupe & readilly available.Christian5 November 2012 at 23:11 #49803I still can’t find a source for original lock pulls, surely they’re not unique to the Rapide? I will look at getting some made, ideally I’d like them black though chromed could look quite good! I will let you know how I get on…
