Can anyone advise the original Lagonda factory paint colour for the LG45 engine?

The 2 Litre was I believe a mid/light grey. Was the 4.5 Litre engine the same?

    Advice gratefully received.

    Hi Mark
My car without doubt had a mid grey paint originally on the chassis but the gearbox showed evidence of originally being off white/ cream. I have also seen some engine blocks in off white or cream on some original looking LG45 s but it is not a very practical colour….suppose you do get to see the oil leaks but white is not so good at dissipating heat which is why engines are better in black!
Think of how hot a black car gets in the sun compared to a white one…well the same is true getting rid of heat too.
So that is my three penny worth
    Cheers

    Thanks Bill,
I have also seen what looked like untouched cylinder blocks in white or cream. The 2 Litre engine was certainly light/mid grey originally, but of course this engine does not run hot and I fully understand the desirability of a paint that radiates heat effectively.
It may be that the light grey and cream paint was all about showing up oil or coolant leaks in period. Quite a few restored 4.5 Litres seem to go for grey cylinder block and head. So my choice is between mid grey or sensible black….decisions, decisions……

    Hi Mark,
If it helps, my V12’s engine had its original paint, and that was the grey already described. The LG6’s engine was repainted when it was “rebuilt”, but it is that same grey, so I assume they matched the original.

As an aside, the V12’s gearbox was painted silver, even though much of it is aluminium….my understanding is that this seemingly pointless finish was primarily to seal potentially porous castings….and Lagonda’s aluminium does seem to have been pretty poor quality.

The only item I have found with white/creamy white paint is one of the V12’s petrol filler pipes. Perhaps these are handed and one side was painted for easy orientation.

Our M45A was blue, but underneath, and at the bottom of the sparkplug holes was a mid grey, actually looks quite nice I think.

I have used Dacrylate 97-LINE vehicle and machinery enamel in mid battleship grey.

I use this for a lot of general jobs around my workshop – my milling machine is also painted in this colour.

I got my supplier to fill some aerosols with it for touch-up.
