SUMMARY:Suffolk Lagonda Dinner
DESCRIPTION:The 47th Suffolk Dinner will take place at 7.30 pm on Friday 21st August 2026. Our hosts are Britten Pears Arts who run the famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall. This was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth. The River View Restaurant is part of this complex with a spectacular panoramic view over the reed beds towards Aldeburgh. \nBritten Pears Arts offer a number of B&B or self-catering accommodation options at the Snape Maltings. These should be booked via their website https://www.brittenpearsarts.org/visit-us/stay/snape-maltings-properties. This is high season\,  so book soon. For those who prefer five star hotel accommodation  in Aldeburgh\, secure parking for cars and taxis are available at the Maltings. \nThere will be a lot on at the Maltings in August. There are several performance venues as well as independent shops and galleries with river cruises and visits to the Red House also on offer. The Summer concert programme will be available on https://www.brittenpearsarts.org/ \nThere will be a coffee morning at the Club spares operation at Johnson’s Farm at Carlton near Saxmundham on Saturday 22nd August. \nAs with previous years\, many local attractions can also be booked so visitors can enjoy a mini break touring the countryside. It’s also an easy drive from Harwich and we will be welcome a number of overseas visitors. \nThe Dinner can be booked through the Club Website at £49 per head. DESCRIPTION:Arrivals are on 13th May\, departing on 15th May. \n2 nights based at Dartington Hall\, near Totnes\, easy to get to from the A38\, which is itself just off the M5\, with a tour on the amazing roads across\, around\, up and down the moor\, covering many of the best spots in Dartmoor. \nDouble and single rooms are available again. We had booked all of the available rooms\, but a cancellation means we have more available again. \nDartmoor is home to the tors\, lovely towns and villages\, Buckfast Abbey\, clapper bridges\, gorges\, prehistoric settlements\, etc\, etc. I’m devising various length routes. So you can mooch around one of the routes\, stopping as you please at some of the sights/walks/visits\, and maybe a treasure hunt to add extra interest. Lagonda enthusiasts were invited to bring their cars to compete in thrilling races and driving trials\, while also witnessing the unveiling of exciting new models. \nTo mark Lagonda’s 125th anniversary last year\, we proudly displayed 40 Lagondas\, showcasing nearly every model\, including a few with historic racing ties to Brooklands. This year\, we’re aiming for an even bigger gathering! \nFor the adventurous drivers\, we’ll be offering exciting opportunities such as demo driving tests\, practice race starts\, and the ever-popular Test Hill ascent. It’s the perfect chance to introduce younger family members to the thrill of driving the family Lagonda. DESCRIPTION:The 2025 Northern Dinner will take place on Friday 9th May\, at the Izaak Walton Hotel in Dovedale\, just north of Ashbourne.  2024 was a really great occasion with 53 diners so we have taken over the whole hotel for 2025 (rooms are available for booking now\, at B&B rates of £120-135 for singles and £140 -157 for doubles) There are 35 rooms of different size and outlooks\, which will be allocated by the hotel on a first come first served basis\, so early reservation is suggested; there are about 5 ground floor easily accessed rooms.  \nAlthough it is the Northern Dinner it is very accessible being in the Peak District at Ashborne\, which is midway between Derby and Stoke. A tour of the very scenic local countryside will be arranged for the Friday\, starting around 10am.  \nSome members will stay for the Thursday night as well\, when we usually eat together\, though various dining options are available.  The hotel reservation is best made by phone- 01335 350981-  or preferably by email to the General Manager  – ryan.wheeldon@izaakwaltonhotel.com. We shall be going by a slightly different 40 mile route from 2 years ago to lunch (with our own parking area) at the Cotswold Barn before going on another 6 miles to Chastleton House to look around and then perhaps have tea and cakes at the Brew House or St Mary’s church.  (Bring your NT membership cards if you have them)\n\nOwned by the same increasingly impoverished family until 1991\, this Jacobean country house has remained essentially unchanged for nearly 400 years as the interiors and contents gradually succumbed to the ravages of time. The main car park is a pleasant walk from the house but there is some “accessible” parking if you need it.\n\nNo formal booking but please let me know as soon as possible if you are planning to take part and how many people will be with you\, so I can pass the numbers on to the Maybush and the lunch stop.\nRegards \n\n\nKen

Both the Victory Inn and the Village Hall at Staplefield are offering refreshments. If you would like a hearty meal at The Victory Inn I recommend booking in advance. \nArrive early for the best parking opportunities on and around the Green. \nThe route covers 60 miles (97km)\, starting in London’s Hyde Park\, the traditional starting point for the Run since 1936.
